About

Mac Pauderson is supposedly a merchant of various rare and magical goods, while also a performer part time. If you're able to see through his facade, however, you'll find he's actually a dirty scam artist. From phony "wonder potions" to supposed cureall, everything he sells is usually a fake, but he gets away with it most of the time due to his wit and charisma, along with just the general gullibility of the townsfolk in the quaint, western-esque small town he lives in.

It's not just him that does the scamming, however. He's rarely seen without his posse: Delilah Pauderson, his clever wife who often comes up with their schemes, and his good friends Duke and Jack, who all aid him in their scamming ventures. Afterwards they often just gamble or give the money away. It may be surprising that so few have really figured his tricks out yet, but as he continues to make friends with many of the people in the town and gain their trust, it's hard to say when he'll be stopped.

Personality

Mac's high ability in socializing and appearing trustworthy is almost impressive in a way, it's not too much of a surprise he's often good at tricking even complete strangers into believing his lies. He's not particularly bright, though, and can be clumsy at times. Despite what he does, he has a good heart, and has a soft spot for children and critters. In the end his goal, other than making a living, is to just have fun. Why work when you can just scam people, right?

Still, though, it's hard to say just how far he'll trick people just to get a hundred bucks or two, he's already gotten people to buy many fake medicines, after all. It would never be his intention to cause harm to anyone, but it's safe to say he could end up doing just that if he isn't careful (and he certainly isn't).

Appearance

As a hybrid, Mac has features of both a fox and a rooster in various places. His head is mostly fox-like along with his torso and legs, but he has a neck covered in red feathers (that often puff up when he's startled/angry), grey bird-like arms that start at the shoulder, and a rooster-like tail with five navy blue feathers. His hair is dark brown with the front greased back and the end styled into a mullet. He's slightly short at 5'6 with an average build and he doesn't have much muscle so he's not exactly a fighter. Finally, his red-orange eyes are fairly large and droopy and he only has two main scars, that being a lightly scratched ear and a chipped canine, both on his left.

Typically he wears pretty modest clothes, and his main outfit is a black coat and green collared shirt, both with plaid patterns, along with jeans, grey shoes, a somewhat Texan-looking hat with a bow, and a duller green tie. The three and one of the club symbols are both on his tie, while the other two are on his coat.

Story

Early Life

Long before he'd ever moved to the town he resides in now or before he even met Delilah, Mac lived in a much larger city after he was taken in by an older man who had recently lost his wife. He was like a father figure for him, and as he grew older he got the slow aspiration to become a musician. Unfortunately for him, however, they were both very poor. Even when he began performing on the streets with a cheap guitar for a tiny bit of money each day, it helped them very little. Eventually, his father figure died of an illness when Mac was only 19. A year later, he was on the streets, and continued to play for donations although it gave little pay.

One day, however, he met Dendley... after having to chase him down due to him stealing a bunch of his donations right in front of him. Despite the rocky meetup, though, Dendley sympathized with Mac and thought they had a lot in common. It was he who taught Mac about stealing from others, scamming, and creating a facade. Before long, a partnership grew, but in the same time, Mac had slowly fallen out of his musician future, agreeing with Dendley that it was at best a bit of a pipe dream. Stealing was the one way to get by that he could think of.

Later years

The two were stealing together up until Mac was 24, and compared to now, they were definitely a lot closer to your typical criminals. They lived together in a high room of a tall, abandoned building and would often go out at night to conduct their crimes. Considering the people in the city were a little less stupid, they had to be quick rather than sneaky. It was a bold tactic, though, and the real reason they stopped was because of the authorities. When their biggest theft yet, bank heist, went wrong, the two were separated while on the run, and Mac hasn't seen Dendley since. Taking only his guitar, he grabbed onto a train which soon led him to the heart of the country where he decided to try and stay in hopes of being safer there. Deep down, however, he still wanted to go back and find Dendley as soon as he was able to.

When he enters the town, though, he's already broke once again, and whether it be his accent or even just the fact he's a hybrid, many of the townsfolk don't trust him. For a while he's forced to squat anywhere he can, but later on he meets another hybrid about his age named Delilah who'd lived in the town her whole life but was also fairly poor and didn't have much of a family. They became curious to know more about each other, and over time formed a special bond. They decide to help each other out financially, but it's not long before Mac lets her know about the way he learned to make big bucks. Delilah added onto these, and with her cleverness figured out ways they could scam the townsfolk.

By the time he's 26, they're already up to their tricks, and as Mac finds ways to present himself as more trustworthy and Delilah helps come up with newer and better plans, they're a fully-formed team, and continue to be after their eventual marriage a year later. When he's 32, he meets Duke at a bar, and then meets Jack while the raccoon/peacock was doing a performance when he was 33. Both become part of the scam team, and Mac becomes pretty close to them both, him and Jack especially, who even form a bit of a mentor-apprentice bond. Him and Delilah, however, have begun to drift a little recently although their scams are becoming far more frequent. Delilah is a little annoyed and a bit hurt with the amount of time he spends with them rather than her, while Mac is seemingly unaware. Either way, though, that is the way things are for them currently.

Trivia

  • Back in his old city, the people there had more British accents while the townsfolk where he lives now have more southern American accents. It's because of this that he began forcing one to seem more trustworthy and relatable, but even today he still hasn't lost the British one and occasionally uses it at home or (comedically) accidentally slips back into it. Because cartoon logic.
  • He never continued past primary school.
  • Both him and the rest of the scam gang's creation was inspired by the music video for Say Say Say by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. You'll probably notice who's a reference to who cause I definitely made it pretty obvious, but yeah. Now I wish there was a full length movie instead of just a five minute music video following those four lol, but I can always make OCs inspired by it.

Delilah is Mac's wife of eight years and close scamming partner, and it's a slight understatement to say that he's madly in love with her. She's quite a bit more competent on her own than he is, however, and he occasionally might depend on her a little too much. That being said, she usually isn't afraid to tell him when he's wrong but over time they've recently begun to drift apart a little. Mac still loves her as much as he's always had, though, and it's more so that he simply gets distracted.

Jack Scamming/performing partner

The much younger man Jack is Mac's 2nd closest scamming partner. While Jack often looks up to him, Mac tends to find the other hybrid somewhat endearing and always has fun when in his company. He occasionally treats him like an apprentice as he helps Jack learn the ins and outs of his most common scamming tricks. On the other hand, Jack was the one who also got him really into performing and they're often seen as a duo.

Duke Scamming partner

Although Duke isn't there all the time, especially so nowadays, he's always a very useful asset for their scams. Even outside of that, however, Mac sometimes finds use in him with the hippogriff being far stronger than he is. Unsurprisingly, Mac's as impressed by Duke's strength as the next guy. They mainly find middle ground through typical talk about their lives.

Dendley Former partner in crime

Despite there being a time when Mac would've done anything to get Dendley back, he has since almost forgotten about the dog over the years and tends to keep his old criminal life a secret. Back when they used to be in a pact, however, Mac often found himself twisted into doing things he didn't really want to do and being dragged into danger by Dendley. In some ways, he regrets what he did back then, but he likely would've still been begging on the streets if it weren't for Dendley coming around.
