★Winnie Rose

Winifred "Winnie" Rose is a Plush Baby (series 4) bird. She is like the grandmother to all the plush babies. Her locket is filled with flower scented sachets she gives to loved ones. She also makes wreaths and bouquets from silk flowers that last forever. She loves hummingbirds, butterflies, sewing, cooking and baking comfort foods and is very affectionate and motherly. If you tell her you like something, especially a particular type of food, she will forever remember and undoubtedly get you lots of it every time she sees you.

 In her rose-shaped locket, she keeps 4-leaf clovers, a preserved corsage from my grandfather, thimbles, and various drawings by her grandchildren done long ago. She also has a little apple ornament made by her friend, Cortland.

As soon as I saw her, Winnie Rose reminded me of my grandmother who left us in 2018. She raised me, and was like a second mother to me. We took naps together, played cards, worked hard in our garden, picked wild blackberries and laughed all the time. She taught me how to cook, bake, sew and take good care of my possessions. She made lingerie and even got a line in Stone & Thomas, a popular clothing company in WV in her time. She was always a very hard worker, and was sharp, funny, charming and energetic to her last days.

Every day feels empty without her. But this baby is one of many things that help keep her memory with me. I remember showing her plush babies and she thought they were adorable. I think she especially would have liked this one, as she adored birds, the colors white & red, wreaths and flowers.
