I'd name them Aetnor, and call him a boy, the the caveat that his species reproduces differently. He'd be from the Jovian giant planet of Soul, or so it's called as it's language is so different from the people of Found World, where the story takes place. Aetnor is the only person on Found World (an asteroid driven through the galactic plane by ancient mechanical engines) who has any idea how all the debris that they picked up from the ring of his planet works, because he's from there and has natural and masterful command over the magic contained in the stones, like the rest of his species. He came to Found World to trade, but stayed because he saw how meaningfully useful his skills could be here... And how potentially lucrative. He makes a fast and enduring friend in the much shorter Mark, who is an engineer studying firstly to become the master mechanic of the space rock they live on, but secondly the strange properties of the stones and how they can be harnessed for mechanical uses, hence their mutual interests leading to such an easy friendship. He does, however, pick on Mark relentlessly for his height.

Aetnor is fiercely proud of where he comes from, but also loves the adventure of the asteroid, and is a very skilled trader, especially since he can use Soul magic to speak every language on Found World telepathically. He also just happened to bring a massive cache of magically hidden stones from his homeworld, which he uses for a quick fat stack of cash every now and again to keep his lifestyle as opulent as he likes. He started with a trading stall close to Mark's workshop, but upgraded to the home duplex-attached to the workshop in the ancient terra-cotta structure. He has it draped with aqua fabrics that remind him of home on the Jovian giant planet he hails from, where the entire atmosphere is a blend of liquid and gas, and almost entirely traversable by his people in the outer layers. They have a rich magical society there, which he emulates with technology from every part of the planet so that he can feel enveloped in the magic of others like he was on his homeworld. Even so, he's not homesick. Found World is just such a natural fit for him.
