I am a doll... a perfect doll...

Name Rika
Kanji 梨花
Age Unknown, immortal
Pronouns She/Her
Species Hinnagami
Occupation Fen's hinnagami doll
Location Fen's tailor shop
World Gensokyo
Ability Granting wishes

Rika is Fen's faithful hinnagami doll, created for the express purpose of granting her master's every wish. As a result of Rika's wish granting, Fen's business has picked up and her parents have since recovered from illness.

However, since Rika's primary purpose is to grant wishes, it is basically the only reason for her existance. Her desire to grant Fen's wishes is insatiable, leading into an unending pattern of wish granting.

Appearance

Eye Color Purple
Skintone #ffe2cf
Hair Color Dark purple
Hair Style Long; blunt-cut

Voice HC: "If only I had freedom."

Rika is a Victorian-styled ball-jointed doll. Rika's face is porcelain, her eyes and lips delicately painted on. As a modern ball-jointed doll, Rika's body is made from polyurethane resin-- due to this being a sensitive material, Rika is often kept in a glass display case so the polyurethane will not suffer from exposure. Rika's hair is dark purple in color, and made of nylon.

Rika's clothing is European-styled, making her stand out among Fen's other traditional Chinese dolls. Typically, Rika wears a frilly, lolita-styled tea dress. Rika's dress is accented with a gentle floral pattern, along with black lace decorating her collar and the hem of her dress. She wears heels and opaque gray tights. Unlike some of Fen's other dolls, Rika actually has many other outfits that were hand-sewn by Fen herself. Despite this, Fen rarely changes her outfit out of fear of tarnishing the doll's delicate skin.

Rika wears a lacy hairband that match her dress' color scheme.

Design Notes

  • Rika's upper ball-joint sockets are in her shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers. She also has joints in her thighs, knees, and ankles. Rika's porcelain face is cracked in some areas.
  • Rika's dress is patterned with a flowery design. The design doesn't need to be added, and her dress can be kept solid purple instead.
  • There's a similar pattern on the ends of Rika's hair ribbons.
  • Rika cannot open her mouth, as her face is painted on. She speaks to Fen telepathically.

About

Outside of granting Fen's every desire, Rika's interests are sorely lacking. Since she was created for this purpose and nothing else, she has no reason to do anything but grant wishes. She can be considered obsessive to a degree since there is nothing else to fill the void.

Rika is child-like in nature, and very curious; she enjoys talking to Fen and asks her many questions about her work, despite having little interest in tailoring. Rather, her interest lies in Fen herself, as she is the one Rika was summoned to serve. Luckily, Fen doesn't mind. In fact, she finds Rika's naivety to be endearing. When Fen is too busy working to pay her attention, Rika can become whiny and lonely, much like a toddler.

A drawback to this is Rika's envy for Fen. As a doll, Rika cannot move from her spot, interact with customers, or freely change her clothing. She stays in her display case during work hours, silently watching Fen sew and handle clients. Rika of course loves her master and doesn't resent her for this, but can't help but feel a pang of jealousy that cannot interact with Fen like a human would.

Trivia

  • The name Rika is spelt with the characters 梨 (pear) and 花 (flower). In Chinese culture, pear blossoms represent longevity. Fen chose this name.
  • Fen's parents don't know of Rika's existence. They believe their influx of customers was a blessing from the Gods.
  • Rika has taken great interest in Gensokyo's puppeteer Alice, and wonders if she could animate a hinnagami as well. Rika hasn't approached Fen on this topic yet however, as she is nervous about how she would respond.

Magic and Abilities

Wish Granting

Hinnagami are spirits residing within dolls, capable of granting any of their owner's greatest desires. Hinnagami are created via a powerful ritual that may take years to fully complete. If one wishes to summon a hinnagami, they must begin by collecting stones from cemeteries and graveyards. These stones will then be carved meticulously into tiny, stone dolls. This phase of the ritual continues until the summoner has carved 1000 stone dolls in total, which then will take the form of a hinnagami.

Hinnagami are capable of granting any wish, and this naturally comes with a catch. Their sole purpose is to please their masters by making their dreams come true; once one wish is granted, the doll's owner must request another wish as soon as possible. The pattern of wish granting never ends, and is said to continue even after the doll's owner has passed away. Legend says that the doll's spirit will follow their creator to Hell.

Fen was well aware of the consequences of summoning a hinnagami spirit, but felt it was a price worth paying for her parents' sake. Essentially, Fen's soul is tied to Rika's for the rest of eternity.
