☰ BACKSTORY ☰ Despite being born with a life-threatening infection which cost her arm, Cassian was set to have a pretty lavish life heading onwards. Born to Agatha McConnell, a wealthy Novian socialite, and Darius McConnell, a rising star in the world of Xytophysics and inventing, life should’ve been easy. That was, until Agatha passed away during Cassian’s infancy, leaving her in the care of her grieving father and suffering with an acute form of bipolar disorder. In the beginning things were difficult, Darius hid his grief and dealt with Cassian’s mental illness by indulging his daughter in whatever she wanted to do, which as a child was gymnastics. As he realised her talent and became drawn into more nefarious means by his profession (eventually joining the Doloriak) he began to subtly train Cassian as a skilled agent for the regime to keep her in check. Through his work he invents her xytosystem which helps to numb and regulate her BD, as well as a number of prosthetics for human enhancement, including Cassian’s xytosystem-controlled arm, Ali’s visor and Karalee’s skeletal enhancement. When Cassian completes her studies in business and entrepreneurship alongside her Doloriak training, she enters the Shadow District and becomes District Deputy, keeping an eye on the declining numbers of Shadowers as the Doloriak’s Purples pull them away to their mind-controlled fate. Cassian’s upbringing since the introduction of the Doloriak hasn’t exactly been parental in nature, and the rift between she and her father is growing larger. | |
☰ PERSONALITY ☰ A socially dominant character with a short temper and tendency to crack inappropriate jokes at the worst times. Deep down she longs for affection like everyone else, but isn’t able to show it. Being bipolar, her mood is often unpredictable but in her moments of manic productivity she gets a lot done and is a highly motivated, if not slightly intimidating member of the team. Every day brings a new challenge for Cass and the team, but her meds help her cope after her xytosystem stops regulating these feelings. | ☰ FAULTS ☰ Cassian often comes off crass and straight up rude in conversation, but for those who can handle her humour she’s bearable. After the events of arc 1, she struggles to keep control of her emotions, her mood defaulting to extremes as a result of her BD. She’s prone to both chaotically happy as well as dangerously angry and extremely sad outbursts. She’s greedy and is initially highly motivated by money and financial profit due to her naivety - this never fully goes away but she learns to value other things above monetary gain. |
☰ DESIRES ☰ Cassian craves love and attention, during mania she frequents the red light sector where she can acquire temporary satisfaction, but it isn't enough. She’s attracted to Dylan but their differences as nemesis make it hard for her to justify this attraction. ☰ TRIVIA ☰ - Team Role: “Citizen Five: The Markswoman” with a lifelong affinity for gymnastics and a recently developed love of parkour, Cassian is able to dash and flip around whilst her xytosystem and arm handles the aiming and shooting for her. Her quick movements and pinpoint accuracy will have the enemy disarmed within seconds. - Cassian is a gender-neutral Novian name, the origin of which traces back to the ancient Siyseurlian word 'Kass'arin' meaning 'to mislead.' Cassian doesn't really care much for deeper meanings, but finds that her parents couldn't have been more accurate when predicting the future of their daughter. - The outer shell of Cassian's bionic arm is comprised of titanium and silicone and attaches to a conductive, anti-chafing holster which she straps to her shoulder to protect what she has of her organic arm. The bionic is connected wirelessly to the motherboard beneath her scalp, and acts as both an input aerial for tracking or locating targets and an output for automatically shooting them down when desired. The information which is fed back into her motherboard takes the form of urgent subconscious thoughts which she can chose whether or not to articulate to her peers. - The permanent contact lens in her right eye which flickers orange can be activated both when she's angered, when her motherboard is overheating or when she's experiencing an adrenaline rush. | |
