they're trying really, really hard to get better and live a good, normal life. Its just so hard when you genuinely cannot image what that might be like.
after their last attempt at normalcy failed spectacularly, RHYS DANSKY drops out of high-school and moves back to the town they grew up in to live with their grandpa for a bit, who himself has been fairly isolated except for his part-time carer ASH. unfortunately, the town they grew up in is steeped in the paranormal and absurd, not that anyone really recognises this as no one knows any different. Its a difficult line to balance when you genuinely have a perception altering mental illness, but also genuinely experience the supernatural.
despite this, their move seems to genuinely be turning out for them. They manage to hold down a simple job at a shitty restraunt, make friends with their co-worker SYLVIA, and even meet a few of sylvia's friends with relative success. This is how they remeet LONDON, a primary school friend who's a bit polarising amongst the general community, and utterly infatuated with rhys.
their semi-successful relocation is thrown into complete chaos when they find a lone teen girl, seemingly stranded on the beach. Rhys naturally decides it's her responsibility to take care of this strange girl, a conviction that's only strengthed when it becomes apparent that something is very wrong with ELODIE. Hijinks ensue.
they struggle with severe perception altering mental issues. they aren't technically diagnosed with anything, but they have been hospitalised because of this, and are currently heavily medicated.
they view elodie as their younger sibling, and are incredibly protective of her.
