ABOUT

Barry Ill Comet is one of the Comet parents. He's an AMO physics scientist at the East Eroid National Laboratory. He graduated from CLCtech in 6018 and would later continue school and earn a PhD in quantum, atomic, and optical physics. Barry's work is mostly engineering and focuses on developing quantum technology - including atom-based electromagnetic field sensing and measurement, communications, and metrology. Outside of his work, he has a few hobbies, including a passion for writing - from nonfiction research-focused scientific journals to science-fiction.

Barry is a huge family-man and loves to spend time with his family, and despite being passionate about his career, it's never put over his loved ones. He sometimes is a bit embarrassing to the kids since he's so sappy and sentimental and not-very-hip. He's very humble and never puts himself above anyone else, and honestly doesn't really have the highest opinion of himself. Sometimes Barry feels like he isn't trying hard enough or that he's capable of better and he will beat himself up over it.

Barry is on pretty good terms with most of his kids. Sly and Barry are relatively close as they share some of the same issues (Barry also has OCD and struggled with depression as a teen). Sly relies a lot on his dad for support, but also doesn't really take any of his advice. Ally and Barry are also close, as he's the one who sparked her interest in space as a child - but much like others, Ally thinks he's pretty embarrassing. Chem and Barry get along well because of their shared interests and have a lot to talk about together. Eve, however, isn't on great terms wit him. He's very concerned about her behavior but feels he's failing at being a good parent for his inability to help her change, and she shuts him out quite a lot.

TRAITS

Family man

Everything Barry does is generally done with his family in mind. He's extremely sentimental and loves thinking about his kids and taking and looking at pictures of them. He loves to make photo albums and collages and decorated photo frames and other things that just cherish his wonderful family because they're his everything.

Prude

Yep, even after all this time, Barry is still prudish and doesn't like to swear or talk about inappropriate things. Nowadays, though, it more manifests in being uncomfortable when his children swear and shielding them from adult things. Sometimes he does find himself swearing, but he'd have a heart attack if one of his kids heard him do it.

Medical fears

Barry remains terrified of germs and illness, but less for himself and more for his kids. His worst nightmare is situations in which one of his kids is sick and has to be hospitalized, which is scary for... obvious reasons. Because of this, he desperately tries to keep the kids from getting sick or getting hurt if he can help it at all.
