maris is a siren shrimpshifter. they used to be part of a tribe of sirens who were very strong, considered to be very feared by enemy deep sea tribes and some other siren tribes. this tribe generally had an overabundance of scales, partially adding to their intimidation factor, as the scales gave them more protection. however, while maris was still in this tribe, some of its family were killed in an attack by a deep sea tribe and maris was forced to leave the tribe, seen as having failed to protect them and being too weak to risk the safety of the tribe.

despite this, maris is and always has been a very strong person. she is a force to be reckoned with in a fight for sure, and she’s also rather clever. however, they aren’t great at anything to do with emotions or feelings and tend to repress a lot of what they’re feeling. they often blame themself for a lot of things, and especially the death of its family members.

ever since it’s been on its own, maris has been swimming awfully close to the shore, not really sure what to do and generally trying to isolate itself. unfortunately for her, she keeps running into elianora, who is very interested in maris. it’s probably just their siren hypnotic abilities, maris thinks, but they’ve (begrudgingly) accepted eli’s friendship. (also they are very much queerplatonic partners in the future :] cute guys)
