Marikk, just like the many Browbirds that came before him, is a sailor first and a voyager second.  On a stormy planet in a busy galaxy, Marikk grew up in a small town alongside the docks bordering a sea that is forever destined to be as choppy and white-capped as the sky with a brewing storm.  His father, just like his father before him and his mother and so on, made a living as a voyager vessel captain on the family ships, carrying all manner of creatures across both the seas and the leylines between the stars.  It’s a rough job that requires complete focus and skill, knowing when to be scared and when to be brave despite it.  These are all valuable traits his father had tried hard once to pass onto him

It’s just a shame that Marikk never seemed to get the message 

Despite his fathers best efforts, Marikk grew up with a relentless hunger to see the world and the universe beyond the nearby leylines his father would carry passengers across, completely unable and unwilling to see danger even when it’s staring him directly in the face.  He grew bored and restless underneath his planet’s stormy skies, and he yearned for bigger and better things - the sorts of adventures his father’s passengers always talked about!  Where were they going, what were they after?  He must find out for himself!

That’s why one night Marikk makes one of the worst mistakes of his life.  He sneaks out in the middle of the night with a ragtag crew of struggling crewmen and hops aboard one of his father’s prized ships, cutting it loose and flying off into the great unknown with the promise of adventure, treasure, and purpose!  That is until he unceremoniously crash lands into a tiny little island planet only a few weeks into their trip into the unknown and leaves with an accidental stowaway stuffed in the bridges of the ship.  With a newfound passenger aboard who very much doesn’t want to be there, their planet long behind them with no way to get the poor thing back home, and a crew that grows ever more antsy by the day - Marikk just hopes he can keep up appearances long enough to keep everything together 

Especially if they all find out he has no idea where they’re going 

But in the meantime his crooked grin and false confidence that he hopes makes him look at least a little captainly is hopefully enough to get him through to see better days!  Marikk is as stubborn as they come, lashing out like a cornered animal when he’s hurt and acting like he’s wounded even when there’s nothing wrong at all.  He’s very much the strong Browbird his father is without any of the man’s grace and nuance, manifesting into a young man that’s way above his head and too afraid to show it, covering his tracks of fear with brazen confidence and enough prickly sides to strike down the gods with
