"When all is said and done,
Tell me how to write this,
Tell me how to fight this war.
 I'll keep marching on
 Like a broken robot
 money back guarentee."

Caliander has been very good at her job for a very long time. In fact, as long as she's been doing basically anything, Calia has been recording or remembering everyone she's met and most everything she's done. Her home's walls weigh heavy with volumes of her journals-- all of her shelves packed with the leather bound vellum and pages and pages of notes and scribbles and diagrams and maps. Calia keeps very busy.

And although that might sound like a project of passion, it can sometimes feel like an Atlas-scaling chore. All her beautiful, illustrated manuscripts, all her field guides and notes-- in many ways, those are not a work of free will and moreso an assignment. An assessment. It's all part of the job.

Caliander Ceane is the one and only Borean Wanderer. Boreas, a world attempting to stay afloat-- has lost it's Gods. The beings formerly tethered to the realm, and responsible for maintaining the seasons, the order of life, evolution, plant growth, natural decay, etc, have more or less quit. Or perhaps are on an extended vacation. A shoddy bureaucracy-- basically a magical parks service department, has appeared in their stead- run by Fae who are attempting to keep the world functioning as normal with their magical abilities. And this is working... somewhat. At least for now. However, going from a world ruled by the omniscient and the omnipotent to a world led by some mid tier magical employees is a major downgrade, and it can cause things to go drastically wrong sometimes.

And that's where Calia comes in. One of the big problems the Fae were facing is that creatures and plants-- entire species and chunks of the biodiversity of Boreas, were just disappearing. Plants and insects and animals were without warning disappearing from the plane of the realm, often only being noticed after someone stumbled across where they were supposed to be. Turns out, it's very hard to keep an active directory of every animal and plant that exists in the universe. And if those things are left forgotten, unrecorded, or unaccounted for, they can just cease to exist, because nothing is monitoring their upkeep or need for evolutionary updates. When the Dei (Gods) realized that this was going on in their absense, Calia was chosen from the people of the realm to act as the cenustaker of all of life.

With a head chocked full of magical information retention and a body blessed with incredible stamina, Calia wanders the world making sure everything is accounted for and exactly where it should be. She's part botanist, part zoologist, part prophet, part cleric. But mostly- she's overworked. Life can be hard when your divine, chosen one status, locks you into an exhausting destiny.

Characters Calia Behaves Like

Calia is similar to a variety of characters, but these are the ones that fit her behaivor the most clearly. She has strong determination, cares dearly about her friends, is very book smart and has a brain like an encyclopedia, loves to research and learn and is always wowed by new sources of knowledge, is tired as hell of constantly working and straining to an unforgiving destiny, and tends to be more reserved in her energy than others might be.

History

Calia was born the only child to a couple of Kyriis in Northern Øya. Her father acted as lorekeeper and head magician to their small town, and helped with the magical and alchemical requests for the townspeople. Every night, he would tell young Calia fantastical tales of the outside world and about the Die, and the world outside their island. The world they lived in was quaint and small, and the expectation is that Calia and her family would live their entire lives in the small island, as most other creatures do. Calia, like her father, manifest potential for magical abilities. Although her father urged her to keep her magic to herself until she could properly train the skills with him, she still liked to do things like attempt to teleport objects to her side and try to make freeze things, like the fur of beings she didn't like. These little pranks usually got Calia in some trouble, more with her peers than the adults around her.

When she was 12, Calia was out walking with a few of her friends through the tundra, just generally goofing off in the snow like they usually would after school. She gets distracted by a strange, rabbit like creature she sees running through the snow, and decides to pursue it. Chasing it, she becomes mesmarized by it's glimmering form, which looks like it is made entirely of shifting light. Calia pursues the creature to the edge of a cliff, and without realizing it, pounces in such a way that causes her to slip and slide towards the edge of the cliff hanging above jagged spears of ice below and freezing cold, dangerous water of the ocean. Calia slips over the edge, but manages to grab hold of the cliff of ice with the wing-claw-like appendages on her back, which dig into the ice. Unfortunately, she is exhausted and weakend by the strain of holding herself up like this without any real help from her claws and paws, and she lets go. She tumbles towards the spears, expecting to die, but is "caught" by the strange light creature half way thorugh her fall and blacks out.

She comes to almost immediately, but not in the world she left. She is in the realm between realms- a pocket of the dimension called the Faewild, where the Fae help managed Boreas from. She finds her body pulsing and changing, shifting between animal and plant in an incredible display of body horror. However, she is not hurt or in danger. A Dei, known as Boreas herself (The God within the world) speaks to her and announces to Calia that she has been chosen to be the wanderer, filling her in on all of her duties and what she will have to do, as well as bestowing the gifts of intellgence, magic, and strength that Calia will need to do this task "for as long as she is needed". Calia is then teleported to the Golden City, the capital of Boreas, to meet with the Queen and with the council by which the Theocracy of the world is run, and who deal with all matters of the Dei within the world.

Back in Øya, Calia's friends come looking for where she ran off to, following her footsteps to the cliff's edge. They make the assumption that Calia has tumbled to her death in the waters below, seeing the claw marks on the wall and the snow which had fallen over with her initially below in the water. Calia's friends and family presume she is dead, and mourn her duly. For most of her life, Calia's family presumes her dead, although she is eventually able to contact her father and gain the ability to keep him updated remotely on how she is doing. However, she asks her parents to let the world back at home think she is dead, because she knows she will never be able to return to the normal life she could have led with them, and it's better for them not to worry about what could have been, or what Calia is now.

Due to the magic that Calia is embedded with, time seems to pass differently for her than it does for other Boreans. It takes Calia approximately 70 years to become 22. Because of this, she does outlive her parents, and most of the people that she knew growing up. She becomes somewhat of a cryptid-- existing between holy, celebrated saint, and urban legend. She passes through towns only briefly, learning all she can and recording all she can, and then blowing on to the next location. Her "Early teens" are years of work, enthusiasm, growth, and then exhaustion. Aging slowly, and the uknown of whether or not she is immortal, can take a toll on you. And of course, Boreas is difficult to contact, whenever Calia does need answers straight from the gods.

Jupiter

[ Girlfriend ] Jupiter is one of Calia's oldest friends and her longtime girlfriend as well. Jupiter is another demigod creature who ages differently than normal beings. Calia has known Jupiter since she first began her journey-- Calia was being introduced to the workings of the Borean Theocracy at the same time Jupiter was being implemented and groomed to be the figurehead leader of the nation. Calia and Jupiter have always related to eachother about the unfairness of expectation, especially when the task at hand was given to them by "fate/destiny/the gods", of which they have no no role in agreeing or disagreeing to. Calia spends most of her time travelling, which can be hard for Jupiter, since she gets bored easily without company and tends to act out. However, Calia is thrilled to always have a helping hand from the Queen when she gets in trouble with the authorities or gets herself into situations where she needs magic much stronger than her own.

Amina

[ Friend / Confidant ] Amina is one of Calia's best friends, and occasionally a travelling companion as well, when needed. Amina is very similar to a "Janet" from the Good Place. She is a nearly omniscient being which Jupiter created for herself, largely out of boredom, having discovered that she was able to embed non-sentient things with life. Jupiter therefore gave a cleaning sponge from the castle that got left out life, a will, and a personality. Amina is simultaneously agelessly wise, but also basically a gentle, naive child. Amina took over the role, by Jupiter's suggestion, of Jupiter's right hand being (Amina technically has no gender) and her assistant. Amina can use her powerful magic to help Calia or summon things she needs, and is also excellent with maps and directions, which Calia usually is not. She is also non aggrivating and great person for Calia to bounce ideas or feelings off of, because she gives level, non emotional advice, which can be a huge help for often hotheaded Calia.

Shows

[ Friend  ] Another one of Calia's friends is Shows. Shows is an alchemist and potion master who helps create magical equiptment and potions for Calia anytime she needs anything. She is basically Calia's dealer for any kind of useful potions. Because Calia is also technically a Neopet, Shows supplies paint brushes and magical potions for Calia to change her color when she needs to, allowing her to utilize certain skills like the ability to breathe underwater.
