It was at the Potentate's feet the cradle finally stopped; a mess of sodden, broken bark sealed with frayed strips of linen that had peeled apart in the river's throat. Many such tributes had come before, and many more would come again; each tended well her gardens.
This one differed in no grand way from the others. Yet she felt compelled to lift its frail husk, cupping it in a shallow pool of water that sat daintily in the palm of her hand.
Her voice was the knotting and twisting of roots burrowed deep; 'You shall be mine.'
Hart is a sprite of an old and sprawling woodland, playmate to nymphs and bête noire of humans. She is particularly loathed by miners, whom she is apt to trick off cliffs or into cavernous mazes.
