Summary
Even in a realm like Avalon, where magic fills the air and most Lythians live and breathe it, there will still be outliers. One example is the Galibytes, who lack any sort of magical inclination or ability despite having chargers, and instead have a more scientific approach to life. Inquisitive, curious, and experimental, these gooey primates tend to do best in large colonies, and will often mingle with others who they believe will help them in their ventures for more knowledge.
✦ Body
Galibytes stand at an average of four and a half feet, with bodies composed of organic and artificial material, most commonly a mixture of fur and slime. This ratio varies depending on the individual, with some being mostly slime, some being mostly organic, and others being half-and-half. However, for those who are made mainly of slime, they always have at least some form of organic material present. It's not uncommon for this to be the material that first develops on their face as a newly born Galibyte, though others may lose this and instead form organic material elsewhere. On the other extreme, with individuals that are mostly organic, their body texture never covers their chest so that their core can have exposure to air. The slime ranges between individuals, some appearing more opaque and with a gelatin-like consistency, while others are more transparent and retain an ooze-like consistency.
✦ Magnet Chargers & Antennae
Considered to be the only traces of magic a Galibyte has, their chargers are found attached to their antennae — inside them, attached to the tips, floating above them, etc. They always come in pairs and absorb an energy specific to them known as "magnet." Theoretically, a Galibyte could be able to control magnetic energy, but their extraordinarily weak amounts of magic would prove this to be difficult to learn. Curiously, they may have additional false chargers alongside their main ones — similar to that of an Igalyph — but they appear to be benign and don’t supply any charge…
✦ Ears
Galibytes have very sensitive ears. They aren’t particularly flexible, so cannot be used for much expression, though they can rotate to let the primate take in sounds from all angles.
✦ Core
A Galibyte’s core is located inside its chest, and usually composed of some sort of metallic material. Suspended in slime, the core stores energy gathered by the chargers, giving it a unique magnetic pull that only affects the Galibyte’s inner slime. Without this, the Galibyte would lose its density and not be able to hold its form.
✦ Limbs
Having similarly proportioned arms and legs, Galibytes are able to walk on their hind legs but also on all fours. However, most prefer to travel upright to keep their hands sanitized. They may have fingers or dexterous paw-like digits, but they always have opposable thumbs, so they can hold objects. Their legs can range from digitigrade to plantigrade in shape, and often feature hand-like feet. Even those with hindpaws have a dewclaw — more of a dew-toe, really — which allows them to also grip objects with their feet and use them like extra hands.
✦ Tail
Having full control of their tail, a Galibyte can feasibly use it to pick up and manipulate objects, though it’s not recommended to use them for more precision-based tasks. It is also used for balance, offsetting the weight on their legs and preventing them from falling over.
Core Features
- A Galibyte’s core is in the middle of their chest, and its two chargers are within or above their antennae.
- Cores and chargers can be any shape, but must be distinct from the rest of their body.
- Their snout must be short and animalistic in shape.
- The chest must be slime, while organic matter is also present in any amount elsewhere.
- Galibytes are highly prehensile, with opposable thumbs and dewclaws, and a tail that can pick up objects.
✧ Extra Suggestions
- circular or ovular core and chargers
- matte or furred organic matter
- jello-like to viscous slime body
- objects trapped in slime
- additional antennae
- rounded ears
- flat nostrils
Baby Information
Baby Galibytes are born from a puddle of specialized primordial soup given a magnetism-infused core. They latch onto this core the moment their arms and legs form, fur growing on their face soon to follow. This core is planted firmly on their abdomen, and does not grow with the Galibyte. Rather, it remains the same size as the Galibyte gradually grows, steadily embedding itself deep in its chest. At some point, the material from the core will replicate itself in the Galibyte’s antennae, becoming their chargers. The importance of retaining knowledge is, above all else, a top priority for the Galibytes. Once capable of handling it, baby Galibytes are fed this old knowledge through the use of spherical “brain-feeding” books, read in a language lost to time…
✦ Baby Features
- Baby Galibytes are entirely made of slime except for their face, which is matte or furred.
- Their antennae are shorter than the length of their head, but they must have a pair.
- They have not developed chargers or false chargers yet.
- Their eyes are closed or half closed at this stage.
- A baby Galibyte’s core is disproportionately large and takes up its entire abdomen region.
Origin Story & Quest
Tekkenskip
Their original realm was in a constant state of decay, which is why the Galibytes are so focused on advancements in technology, be it chemical, biological, or medical. It was their purpose, the reason they were created, so they looked into everything they could to save their realm. But despite their best efforts, they could not repair it. Eventually, they had to evacuate their dying world and seek out a new place to settle. During this process, they found Lyth and the many realms in it. With the memory of their previous home fresh in their minds, the Galibytes are determined to never let that happen again.
Once they’re able to move without their core getting in the way, a Galibyte typically has their chargers and has opened their eyes. They are naturally quick learners, and endlessly curious about the world. They may mimic the surrounding adults, and they’ll attempt to recreate things they've seen using anything they can get their hands on, such as buttons, string, and bottle caps. Baby Galibytes are also "reverse-learners" and should not be trusted around simple machines. Though careful with their hands, they may end up somehow dismantling a clock to look at the pretty gears inside.
What was your Galibyte’s first creation? Did they manage to make something like a simple stick & rock seesaw, or was their invention powered solely through imagination? It’s the thought that counts, not if it worked! Please portray your Galibyte using their baby design or an adolescent design that’s not quite their adult form yet.
