CHILDHOOD

Adrián is the son of Aira Cuervo and Miguel [Unknown], two excellent, pioneer scientists in the world of Frequential Science and Technology (FST). Due to the uncertainty and few protection methods for this new means of science, Aira suffered severe internal damage and unfortunately passed away when she gave birth to Adrián, using the last of her strength.

After this, Miguel turned fully abusive towards their children, which lead Adrián’s sibling, Xander, who was 7 years old at the time to realize he might have been channeling that abuse towards their mother previously. Miguel had been an absent/non-caring father of sorts, and when Aria, the outlet for his frustration, died, he shifted that rage towards the brothers. Adrián was never fully aware of this as a child, part of his brain has forgotten parts of his childhood due to trauma, but Xander protected him physically and psychologically beyond their capabilities.

At age 9, Adrián started dreading growing up: his body had just started changing in a way he hated, it caused people to view him as someone he wasn’t, and to treat him differently, which caused him to fear even being looked at or perceived and so he hid away when he was in school most of the time. Xander noticed this, of course, and managed to get Adrián to talk about it with them. After long talks of understanding, Xander figured out Adrián was experiencing gender dysphoria (they knew transgender and non-binary people through high school and was familiar with the terms), and sorta explained it to Adrián, whom ended up asking to be treated as a boy as a test – and it ended up working like a charm. Of course, none of this was told to their father… unfortunately, he found out by overhearing them eventually. He simply ignored the topic and just brushed everything off as a “phase” or “you’ll grow out of that nonsense”, as well as “you just say that because it’s a trend”.

A year after, Miguel had fully turned into a mad scientist. He spent less time at home, which wasn’t a problem for the brothers, they had learnt to fend for themselves already anyway. But one night, tragedy struck: Miguel had taken a fast asleep Adrián on his car and was driving towards the FST Experimental Centre. Xander, who had been hanging out for the day, panics upon finding this out and turns the house upside down trying to find a clue. Eventually, he finds the details of the facility in their mother’s laptop as well as some gadgets she’d work on that they barely knew how they worked. Taking one of these gadgets and putting on noise cancelling headphones around his neck, he rides his motorbike under the rain to find them. Adrián had these noise cancelling headphones on during the ride and stayed asleep for all of it, with no idea of what was going on. Upon finding them, Xander confronts their father and threatens to end it all by using the gadget, which he does in a fit on rage and ends up killing their father (it’s more complex than that, but this isn’t the worldbuilding doc). Unfortunately, this harms him and Adrián as well, and with the last of his strength Xander rides towards the facility, where they get lucky and find some workers to help them out.

They stay in this centre for a few weeks, recovering and learning whatever their parents were researching, finding out their mother was well loved and getting to take more mementos home with them. Their time there also confirms that their father started losing it as he became more and more obsessed with his research, but they don’t fully understand what this research was for in the first place.

After these events, the Cuervo brothers turn to their friend Dereon, older than them and who had taken an older brother role with the two, in order to ask him to be their legal tutor. Dereon isn’t sure at first, but these two are the only family he has at this point, so he ends up agreeing and taking them in.

TEENAGE YEARS

Adrián got to start his transition early on, all thanks to having a supportive environment and public healthcare, and passing didn’t cause him much trouble in high school. His fear of being noticed slowly banished away, and he got along with most of his classmates and people in general. Maybe due to the incident where his father died, he ended up developing a very strong sensitivity for sound as well as “the atmosphere”, so he was always good at dodging questionable people.

In these years, he got to know Esteban Costa (now sound tech for Advent), whom he dated for a few years. Their break up just before reaching adult age was friendly, fortunately, and ended in great terms, they’re still best friends to this day. Chema Martínez (crew member and driver for the band) was in the same school as well, he was closer friends with Esteban but Adrián hung out with him as well (even with how annoying and teasy he could get, but Adrián could sense he wasn’t a bad person).

As he grew, Xander got to explain to him all the events of their childhood as best as he could. Upon hearing this and more stories of their mother due to looking through all mementos they’d gotten over the years, he’d gotten more and more curious about Aria, and is only now when he starts grieving for his mother that he didn’t even get to meet. Xander mentions something about there being a possibility to meet her, not through supernatural means but scientific, however: he’s forbidden Adrián from looking into it with the help of the FST Centre and hasn’t even revealed to him the location of it, so they have to work with the little information they gathered from their time there.

During this time, he developed an interest for music and started learning guitar from Dereon, who had basic notions and had already been teaching bass to Xander. Due to his more developed hearing and sensitivities, he quickily started composing his own melodies, surpassing his (very proud) teacher and leading him to be more experimental on his own after learning the basics. This lead him to dream of forming a band with his sibling and Dereon someday, and noted and recorded a couple of demos on his own and on his free time.

At 16, he started looking for a job in order to help out Xander and Dereon with expenses (despite Xander’s disapproval). He ended up with a position as a waiter at the bar-concert venue La Boca del Lobo, managed by Eric Fernández.

CURRENT TIME

Adrián now still works at La Boca del Lobo, but as a cook. This bar got him to meet the rest of the band: Mireya Fernández (sister to Eric), Alma Rabal, and Diana Molina, and was the kickstart of Advent. When not at work, he writes for the band mostly, but recently he’s been experimenting with mother’s gadgets as well, both for music and to try to find a way to get into whatever plane of existance she could be in. These last experiments are done without Xander knowing, and in collaboration with Esteban, since he has a great understanding of sound and most importantly: frequencies.
