He's technically genderless but self appoints as a he/him for convenience.

Avi is a newly born "god" but was willingly stripped of his divine powers. He was taught how to master various weapons and magic, and was dropped from "heaven" to Earth with nothing else but his wits. 

His purpose is to learn about the world and figure out what exactly he wants to become the god of when his powers are returned. He doesn't actually have a halo or wings for most of the story, and just looks like a strange nobleman's child. He doesn't need to eat, and can self regenerate if he's injured.

Avi must look for the other gods, who he acknowledges as siblings, so that he can receive their blessing for the journey ahead. He accompanies Seth, who teaches him about the reality of human behavior.
