Melissa "Mist" Kaena

Mist is a rather motherly, kind, and gentle soul. She’s lived through a couple of things that made her mature quickly and she was determined to do so with grace. So, she’s become a wise, affable, sweet, and compassionate person. On the flipside, however, she’s strict and protective and a bit of a worrywart. She likes to assume that everyone she meets is a friend and, as such, she is really open and willing to share anything she has with those around her. She’s a giving person as well, but she knows not to give more than she can handle. She finds difficulty in making new friends (she’s an introvert), yet she’s always reaching out in the hopes of making a meaningful connection.

Melissa was born to unknown parents that promptly realized that they didn’t want her for reasons that Mist never truly found out. As such, she was put into the foster care system as a baby. A year after she was born, her biological sister, Francis, encountered the same fate. It was somewhat of a miracle that both sisters ended up in the same location and that the caregivers recognized their relation. Regardless, Mist and Francis, who took the nickname Frost, grew up in the orphanage with a rather neutral upbringing. They were adopted by an elderly couple when they were 12 and 11 years old. They lived a nice life- nothing fancy, but enough to call home. At the age of 16, however, Mist encountered a classmate named Sunny. The two hit it off and at first their relationship was wonderful. But one day, Mist found herself pregnant and Sunny dumped her because of it. He said he was scared of being a father and when Mist insisted on keeping the baby, Sunny didn’t want to have any part of it. Thankfully, Mist’s adoptive parents were supportive of her choice and she was able to have a healthy child.

This wasn’t to last though and at the age of 18, Mist’s elderly adoptive parents passed away suddenly in the night. Left with half the inheritance and a baby, Mist was quick to sell the house, buy a smaller place in the city, and get a job to support her child. Frost decided to strike out on her own, so Mist had to pull up her bootstraps and learn how to balance life as a single mother and a career woman. She managed to get a job at the local dragon tamer/trainer facility and she’s been working there ever since.
