Profile

Description

Silas is 50% not from this world. His mother is an angel, or at least, that is what most would call her. She is actually just a species from another universe, a place where humans can summon wings and control the elements around them. In this universe however, these angels are left without powers since their environment does not have the same properties as their own universe. They would look like regular humans, like his mother, and like himself. Silas lived a regular life as a kid in Fargone, hanging out with his friends and enjoying sports, as well as his schoolwork. He even got into a romantic relationship with one of his friends, Luka. Though eventually, he had to move as his parents had gotten business opportunities better suited in Solidar. Silas left one city and had to start anew in a new one, and suddenly his girlfriend stopped calling him.

Moving is never fun, especially if you were already close, but not close enough to adulthood. Silas decided to make the best of it however and created a new network of friends in Solidar. Silas likes to show his appreciation with gestures, which he had developed to expertise back in Fargone. The reason why he was so adamant on showing people he appreciated them is rooted in various insecurities, suffering from a hard case of imposter syndrome, Silas does not think he deserves to get a job in accounting, even though he is very skilled in the subject and gets amazing grades for it.

Once he starts living on his own, he decides to spend more time back in Fargone, where he left his old group. They take him back in with open arms (even though things are still extremely awkward with Luka). Silas is the straight man in the group, being the one that often sends other friends back to reality but indulging in crazy schemes whenever they do not seem to stray too far from misdemeanor. Silas has a strong moral compass, and prefers to do good, but often feels like he cannot make any impact on the bigger world around him.

This vastly changes for him though, when one day, during a visit to the museum with his friends, Kapak crashes in, attempting to steal ancient relics. A relic falls on Silas’ chest, activating his dormant angelic genes. A relic from his mother’s dimension had made it here and had enough properties to transform Silas into his angelic form, giving him powers he could use to fight against villains. He tries to help whenever he can under the alias ‘Brightside’, but even with his new superhuman powers, his insecurities prevent him from believing in himself. He wants to do the right thing, but is afraid of screwing things up, making things worse.

Over time he gets a little more confident, meets new heroes and learns from them, and gets used to his alter ego. As if life was not busy enough, he now felt like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he is not alone, and he partially enjoys having a little more control over his fate.

Abilities

Whenever his relic (That he usually wears around his neck) comes into contact with him, Silas’ dormant angelic genes activate, transforming him into an angel. Physically, he becomes taller, burlier, and stronger. He is also able to create hardlight wings and a halo, that allow him the power of flight. Aside from that, he has Solar- and Aerokinesis, able to fire bright blasts of sunlight, as well as strong, sharp gusts of wind.

His transformation grants him a strong armour around him and changes his looks enough that he is able to hide his true identity.

Notable Comic Arcs:

  • The Chosen Relic (Chaotic Rhyss! #350, Brightside #1-#6): During a visit to the museum with his friends, Silas inspects a relic, rumoured to be from a different universe. While he is inspecting it, Kapak breaks into the museum and breaks several of the cases, making the relic land on Silas and activating his angelic genes. Silas is able to stop Kapak with the help of Rhyss, and starts his path to become a hero, similar to his friend. He uses his powers to stop crime in Solidar and Fargone, with the help of heroes, more than willing to help out this new hero with insecurity issues.
  • Call to War (Brightside #11-#25, Chaotic Rhyss! #460-#500): After most of his friends had been kidnapped by the Goddess and almost killed, Rhyss leaves Fargone and his friend group behind to work on himself. There is no hero to defend Fargone from threats. Reluctantly, he decides to pick up the mantle to defend Fargone in Rhyss’ absence. Even though he is able to protect Fargone for the most part, the stress is gnawing at him, deteriorating his mental state slowly. Luckily Rhyss comes back before Silas loses it, but he does resent Rhyss for leaving him behind with his self-imposed responsibilities.
  • Chaos! Going Global! (Chaotic Rhyss! #520-#545): Malka’i relics that have been scattered all over the world have started to go beserk, making them appear as beasts. The first location the team goes to together is Solidar. Silas has located a relic and tries to retrieve it from a collector with the help of Kataru. The two, however, get into a conflict since Kataru wants to steal it, while Silas feels like that is the wrong thing to do. Because of their heated conflict, the relic activates and goes on a rampage. Rhyss, Silas and Kataru manage to stop it before it does real damage to the city. Afterwards, Rhyss apologizes to Silas for leaving Fargone during Call to War, and thanks him for helping out the city in his absence. Silas is finally able to vent about the stress he went through during the arc, but because of it, is finally able to forgive Rhyss, and understand his own hardships.
  • Oblivaeon/Schism (Brightside #34, Chaotic Rhyss! #623-633): Terrified by the entire conflict, Silas reverts back into the anxious hero he was when he just started out. Luckily, with encouragement of the friends he made along the way in Solidar and Fargone, Silas becomes a force to be reckoned with during the conflict.

Comic Notes (Can be expanded or retconned on whenever):

  • Introduced late in the Chaotic Rhyss! comics. Serves as a new ‘up and coming’ hero, since Rhyss at this point is more than experienced.
  • Silas is studying economics to become an accountant. He is unsure where to exactly work yet.
  • Before he moved to Solidar, he had a relationship with Luka. This is actually Luka’s first relationship. The relationship itself spawned out of excessive teasing by Luka, which made Silas take the relationship way more serious than Luka, which ended up in an awkward separation once Silas left for Solidar
  • During a scuffle between Rhyss and Kapak fighting about relics, Silas, a childhood friend of Rhyss and Derek, gets an ancient artifact thrown in his lap. The artifact awakens his dormant angel gene, transforming him in his angel species whenever he touches it.
  • Explicitly is not part of the Friend Force!
  • Because Silas transforms because of his powers, he can keep his identity a secret, and starts to train in order to help fighting crime in Fargone and Solidar.
