Lemon is one of the highest ranked Quartzes in Yellow Diamonds court. She is an advisor to all gems, knowing extensive information about gem history and running a "library" stocked full of the most important files Yellow Diamond allows to be 'public.' For a very long time, this was her only job. Her gentle and kind nature was perfectly suited to her purpose.

But one day, while touring a kindergarten that wasn't due to burst in years, five deformed Gems popped out of the ground right near her. They were undercooked; small, meek, and defenseless. Easily would be shattered if found. Without any idea of what to do with the little gems, she stashed them under her wide hoopskirt. Though she did have guards, her rank kept them quiet.

And that was how Lemon Quartz began to hide five small gems under her dress regularly. In human terms, they are essentially her children - she cares for them like how a mother would and gets very defensive when anyone questions the many footsteps coming from under her dress.
