What's all this ghost stuff about?

Lucky blocked out a lot from his life before death, but he remembers his horribly ironic name. Now, Lucky is the hitman for the ghost mob, and he's made the best of it. After all, he's the only one he's ever seen with missiles and guns like his! He's very skilled at his job, and would do anything for his boss, Adrestia, and his best friend Doom. Though he can be somewhat of a grouch and extremely antagonistic to those he deems not worthy of his attention, his persona is very influenced by his job and past life, and can be quite kind once you get to know him.

Despite it all, Lucky curses his state of being, only wishing he had stayed dead. What does the world want from him?

"There was so much shit going on, man. After Jules left... my life just fell apart."

First impressions tell one that Lucky is a pessimistic, snarky and mean spirit. He's spiteful and seems petty, stooping low to "get the last laugh". He always has something to say under his breath, and tends to think he's a bit smarter than whoever he's speaking to. A lot of these personality traits, however, are ones Lucky stews in after death and uses to bury his vulnerable side.

Lucky, once you get to know him, is pretty caring and invested in other people's lives. He's sweeter with kids than he is with most other people, but a few drinks at a bar can soften him up to anyone. He's a sad and upset drunk, but he'll pour his heart out to present company. Although his demeanor changes drastically with a little friendship, Lucky is still pretty pessimistic and not afraid to let anyone know how he views the world. The depression he suffered from during life, although not amplified by other living factors, still remains and plagues a lot of Lucky's thoughts.

Writing is Lucky's passion and he has a love of all literature. Although he can come off as pretentious with his suggestions in books, Lucky appreciates all form of the art, and takes a special interest in horror. He enjoys writing poetry as well. He secretly has taken up the hobby of crafting charms for ghosts in his afterlife, but he does not share this with anyone.

The Horrid Start

Lee was born in the mid 20th century to his mother. His father had died before he was born, so the idea of a father was a faraway dream for Lee. His mother, however, made it very clear that Lee’s sister, Celia, was the favorite child in her eyes. Lee grew accustomed to the rather harsh treatment from his mother and took refuge in his sister’s company.

As Lee grew up, he not only became accustomed to his mother’s treatment, but came to expect it. When his mother wasn’t berating him, he was left to his own devices to wonder what he was doing wrong to earn the treatment he was receiving. When Lee had the time, he would write creatively; he wrote poetry and pieces of prose heavily inspired by his home life. Days were spent filling page after page with laments, then hiding those pages from his family. To avoid spending so much time writing negatively, Lee stayed glued to his older sister, Celia.

Celia, although unable to fully protect him from their mother’s distaste, would let him follow her to places and let him explore the outdoors with her. During the summers, after Celia would work, she’d take Lee out to a nearby grove where she would play pretend with him and discover ‘the secrets of the universe’. Celia noticed Lee’s knack for getting into trouble, or ending up with horrible luck; to help him laugh it off, she affectionately nicknamed him Lucky, and Lucky refused to be called anything else.

Unfortunately, Lucky’s nickname proved to be cruelly ironic early on in life. One day, Celia never returned home from work. Lucky, being a teenager at the time, panicked and went out looking for her, staying out late night after night; not only did Lucky’s grades in school begin to suffer with the lack of sleep and studying, but he never did find his sister. The night Celia disappeared sent Lucky’s mother into a frenzy, and she acted out aggressively whenever Lucky was home. She even went as far as to try and hit her son with her car, but she failed to do any damage aside from clipping him. Lucky tried to believe it was an accident, but he had come to accept the worst explanation when it came to his mother.

As time went on, Lucky developed MDD, or depression. While the usual and common symptoms plagued Lucky’s life, he kept most of it to himself, but others noticed his slight shift in demeanor. While Lucky had always been standoffish and hard to get along with, he started to snap more at others and become more abrasive when confronted. Friends passed it off as a poor change in personality and began to leave him behind, which gave Lucky more time to lose himself in the shelves at the library he worked at. Lucky’s job seemed to be the only thing that kept him afloat anymore, alongside writing prose and poetry for himself when he was alone.

That is, until he met Juliet.

The Horrid End...?

Juliet was the light at the end of the tunnel in Lucky’s eyes. They met at Lucky’s library, and Lucky found it easy to fall in love with Juliet’s sweet and gentle nature. They were inseparable; while Lucky was still outwardly brash, Jules was able to soothe him a lot of the time. Lucky found someone he could confide in, someone he could love, someone he wanted to spend every moment of his life with.

Unknown to Lucky, Juliet was a Shapeshifter, a species of monster capable of taking several forms. Most Shapeshifters go through a mating process known as Knighting, in which two Shapeshifters, who wish to mate for life, inject each other with a unique liquid from their tails. This process is natural and harmless for Shapeshifters, but it tends to have strange effects on humans that are Knighted by Shapeshifters.

When Juliet inevitably Knighted Lucky, he began to undergo changes. Some were physical, like the transformation of his pupils to resemble a goat’s, but many of the changes were mental. His world began to revolve around Juliet; if she wasn’t around, for even a day, Lucky couldn’t function. His mind obsessed over her as his depression quickly worsened. As a result, Lucky became volatile and extremely explosive towards friends and strangers alike. He had a hard time coping with his emotions and the unwanted changes overcoming him; he didn’t notice that Jules had begun to fear him despite his struggles. She suddenly upped and left one day, telling Lucky she couldn’t be with him any longer before disappearing.

The sudden break-up threw Lucky into a frenzy; his behavior worsened with Juliet gone, and severe physical changes followed. Lucky would constantly fall ill, suffer from seizures, and react strangely to certain stimuli, like his own blood or bright lights. He knew something wasn’t right, so he had tried to get physical - and even psychiatric- help, but the doctor passed off Lucky’s behavior and depression as aggressive masculinity. Since Lucky couldn’t control when his symptoms occurred, the doctor wrote Lucky off as a liar and refused to see him again. Lucky felt alone and abandoned; his addiction to Jules came in waves and physically destroyed him every time. As Lucky acted out more, his job threatened to let him go, and his life fell apart. During one particularly rough night, left alone to close up the library, Lucky hanged himself from the second floor of the library, killing himself instantly.

Well This Just Isn't Fair

That was meant to be the end, but Lucky awoke some years later with a broken neck in the library he used to love so much. He couldn’t recall a single thing from his life, except that his name was Lucky, and he felt angry at the world. It was a feeling underlying all else, and something he just couldn’t shake. Assumptions told him he was a ghost, and this didn’t sit well with Lucky at all. He wandered among the land, aimless, unsure of what to do with his afterlife, or even why he was here. It was then he met Adrestia, a spirit older and wiser than him. She took him into her care, using her powers to disguise Lucky’s unpleasant image into an image of himself he was comfortable with. Lucky was extremely grateful for her help, and he became close friends with the other spirit in her care, Doom.

Adrestia invited Lucky to live in her castle, which was home to many wandering and lost children spirits. Adrestia was also involved in the complex monster mob crime web housed in Australia, as the ghost representative, and she invited both Lucky and Doom to join her. Lucky picked up the position as a hitman, and became familiar with a bazooka. It’s one of his favorite weapons now.

Lucky lives with Adrestia and Doom in her castle with countless other spirits in Adrestia’s care. Lucky finds himself tending to children more often than not, and he tends to write when he’s feeling down. His ghostly status has made him bitter towards humans, but he does have a soft spot worth finding. He doesn’t know why he’s on earth still, but he wants nothing more than to be able to rest eventually.

Relationships

Adrestia

12726715_XvY.png

Mother Figure

If it weren't for Adrestia, Lucky doesn't know what purpose his afterlife would serve. She gave him a place to stay and a job, which he appreciates greatly. Not to mention, Adrestia is the reason Lucky looks the way he does. Although she can give him some tough love, Lucky is very grateful for her kindness and will do anything she asks, especially when it comes to taking care of the kids she is in charge of.

Doom

4339769?

Best Friend

Partners in crime, Lucky loves spending time with Doom. Doom can be quite loud and definitely does not share Lucky's pessimism, but the two get along pretty well regardless. They are known to bicker a lot when they are together, but it is always playful and in good fun. Although neither would admit it, Lucky relies on Doom pretty heavily to keep him going, and Doom knows it's important to be there for Lucky, especially in work situations. The two like to sleep under the stars.

Rory

1588759?1572392571

Close Friend/Crush/Friend OC

Although they had gotten off on the wrong foot, Lucky has come around and enjoys Rory's company greatly. After all, he's one of the only people who is aware of the ghost mob's existence! Lucky likes having drinks with Rory at the bar, and just letting their feelings air out. Not to mention, Lucky has developed a crush on Rory that he knows he can't act on. It has resulted in playfully mean retorts and lovesick poetry that is never shared with anyone.

Ryo

3330160?

Doctor (Ugh)/Friend OC

Lucky doesn't remember much from his days as a living human, but he does know that doctors suck. Everything about them is fake, and they don't actually have patients' best interests at heart. Ryo is no different -- at least, Lucky refuses to acknowledge that Ryo DOES care. Instead, Lucky will pester and annoy Ryo until he snaps, just to have the last word. Deep down, Lucky appreciates the help from Ryo, and does acknowledge he's a nice person, but ugh! He's a doctor!

Daisy

7369955?1613276652

Nurse

Daisy seems like a sweetheart, but even the sweetest nurse can't look at Lucky directly. How rude! Lucky did find her cute, but since Ryo and Daisy have started dating (It's no secret!), he's pulled back -- and not to mention, her inability to look him in the eyes bothers him to the core, though she won't tell him why. Ah well, at least she's still nice to him...

Ink

2016666?

Enemy

The worst mob member, in Lucky's strong (and correct) opinion. The few times Lucky and Ink have crossed paths have not been ideal -- Lucky has resorted to blowing off Ink's limbs with his bazooka to keep himself safe. They don't like each other, but Lucky knows Ink is on the lookout for him and the ghost mob... so he'll just have to keep using the bazooka as needed! Not to mention, Ink is incredibly stupid, so it's not hard to outsmart him.
