"Curiosity killed the cat? I say satisfaction brought him back."
Personality
Gen is easygoing and loves napping. It takes a lot to get on his nerves, and he hardly takes anything seriously. He's often seen fooling around. He loves chatting with people, and can go on for hours with the right person. While friendly and willing to talk to anyone, Gen takes a little bit to warm up to someone and truly open up to them. Gen's adaptable, and can face new situations with ease. He can think of creative ways to solve most problems, from real life predicaments to difficult puzzles. Gen enjoys figuring out a solution!
Despite how lazy he acts, Gen is a hard worker, and is efficient in what he does when his mind is set to it. He's highly curious, and usually gets in to some kind of trouble for sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. No matter how much he gets in trouble, his love of learning keeps coming back. He's learned a great deal of fun trivia over the years, and loves surprising his friends with fun facts.
Gen has self-esteem issues, and has convinced himself that he won't amount to anything. He has a hard time reaching out for help, and would rather turn to a stranger at a cafe for advice over his friends. Gen likes listening to other people's problems and giving advice if he has any, but he'd rather run away from his own than face them head on. They don't exist if he doesn't think about them, right?

Backstory
Gen was adopted before he could even walk, and was told so at a young age by his parents Oliver, Kasper, and Sylvia. He never thought much on it besides a few questions here and there. As a kid, he was happy right where he was. Gen's curiosity drove him to try many things, and often got him in trouble! He'd get in to things he wasn't suppose to just to see what was hidden in a drawer, or investigate an interesting noise and find something like a rattle snake. Everyday was a new adventure, and Gen kept his parents on their toes!
During his time at school, Gen was known as a slacker. Sure, he'd get average grades, but he didn't really care much about school work. He'd do well on assignments that interested him, but otherwise he'd work just enough to get a passing grade. Gen had a tight-knit group of friends who he'd hang out with everyday, and would love hanging out with other kids he thought were cool. He'd play with kids at recess who he thought were joking around with him, saying they'd need to burn their clothes after playing tag with Gen, mention his favorite animal dying, or that he was faking not being able to cry. It never got to Gen until much later.
Gen was one of the last kids in his middle school classes to discover his magic. During the summer, Gen was playing in his backyard with his friends around the pool. While he was running, he slipped and fell in. Gen had never been much of a swimmer, and was panicking about how he was going to drown, and hoped one of his friends could pull him out. While in his panic, Gen suddenly propelled himself up. He was frozen stiff as he held on to the side of the pool, wondering what had just happened. He learned he had water elementalism magic that day, and his curiosity took over as he quickly started using his magic for all kinds of things!
While he had a comfortable life with his parents, Gen had started getting bored of seeing the same things everyday after graduating high school, and wanted something new. His dad, Oliver, suggested Unity City because that was his home town. Gen took the suggestion and moved out the Unity. There were so many sights, sounds, and smells to take in! Gen didn't think he'd get bored there anytime soon. His parents sent him enough money to live comfortably for a few months while he went job hunting.
Gen had a hard time finding a job that sounded interesting and didn't require being around many people. He'd often think about his days at school, saying they weren't so bad, but he remembered the awful things said to him. While he pretended to shrug it off, it got to him enough to decide against working in large groups, and to start taking everything as a joke.
One day while searching, Gen found an ad for a butler opening near the rich side of Unity. Living in a huge home, and all he'd need to do is keep the place picked up? Cleaning was something he enjoyed, and was good at, so that sounded like a good time to him! He applied for the job, and later heard back from the mansion's owner, Yumi, who explained that his mom had sent out the ad, but that he'd still appreciate the help. Gen introduced himself, and moved in with Yumi shortly later.
Gen realized how hard he was going to work when he realized just how large the mansion was. Three stories, a garden, and a backyard pool to take care of? That shouldn't be a problem with his water magic, right? He was thankful Yumi brought in two other people to help, and that Yumi himself would help clean. Soon enough, Gen split up the work with the other butlers, and was using his magic to help with multiple chores around the house. From cleaning, to watering plants, and keeping the pool clean. It was tiring, but he thought it was worth it. He'd even cook for Yumi and the others from time to time.
Over the next year, Gen spent his time working to keep the mansion clean, fed Yumi's cockatiel, and lazed about whenever he wanted! Yumi eventually caught on, and confronted Gen. While Yumi loved the help, he didn't want to be used, and told Gen to find another job. He allowed Gen to stay at the mansion for the time being, but Yumi also added that he needed his space, and would rather not talk to Gen unless it was an emergency.
Seeing exactly how upset Yumi was, Gen stayed silent instead of joking to brush things off. He accepted what Yumi said, and went back to job hunting. It took a few weeks for Gen to find something that would keep his interest, but he soon found an opening as a mail carrier. Gen quickly started to enjoy being able to see new streets and scenery, and loved that not everyday was the same. New things wouldn't happen every day, but it was enough to keep things interesting.
It took some time, but Gen was able to slowly repair his friendship with Yumi, and was given permission to stay at the mansion. He explained to Yumi why he took the job, about the verbal bullying and his eye condition. Yumi told Gen about the stories his mother told of her being used for her money, and how he didn't want that to happen to him. While things weren't the same, the two of them understood each other better, and started to hang out again.
One day, Gen overheard how Yumi had been adopted, and shared that he was too. The boys talked about their experience, and Gen mentioned how he was also somewhat curious about what his birth family was like. Not enough to go searching, though. He loved the family he was adopted in to. Yumi mentioned how he'd help Gen if he ever did want to find them.
Present Day
Gen is still living with Yumi, and helping him figure out ways to deal with the Blackjacks.
