Sango Asai (浅井三吾 Asai Sango) also known as the Crystalline Hero: Geode (クリスタルヒーロージオード Kurisutaruhīrōjiōdo) is the No. 8 Pro Hero and assistant teacher of U.A.’s Class 1-A.

Having been accepted into U.A. High School prematurely due to skipping a grade, Sango quickly gained popularity while working at her older sister’s agency. Following her death, she disappeared for a few years, before unexpectedly making a comeback and earning the No. 8 ranking. Concerned about the safety her friends who worked at U.A., she took up the position of assistant teacher for Class 1-A.

Appearance

Sango is a slender young woman with very pale skin, messy, chin-length white hair, long white eyelashes, and large blue eyes with diamond-shaped pupils. She sports half-sleeve diamond tattoos on both of her lower arms. Her nails are permanently crystallized, a side-effect of her quirk.

Especially for a Pro Hero, Sango is oddly thin and scrawny. Build-wise, standing next to students at U.A. High, she could be mistaken for one of them. She is described as being built almost like a dancer, having long legs and a dainty stature. However, it has been proven that she is far stronger than she looks, especially when utilizing her quirk.

Her civilian attire consists of a simple black t-shirt with a large diamond printed on the front, paired with light blue jean shorts and a dark grey belt, complete with a diamond-shaped buckle. She wears dark grey knee-high socks with two white stripes near the top and light grey sneakers. She usually wears a pair of diamond earrings.

Sango’s hero costume is composed of a strapless white crop top with an intricate blue geode design on the front, a nod to her hero name, Geode. She wears a diamond collar that stretches down to her shoulders, phasing into long crystal-like shoulder pads that act as extra armor. Light blue fabric lines her waist and partially her back, leaving her stomach and a diamond-shaped portion of her back exposed. Her leggings are a purplish-blue, coupled with a white belt and sleek blue knee-high socks. The design of her boots is intricate, primarily consisting of shades of blue and white and a diamond pattern on the front shin. Following the death of Chantale, Sango wears her pale, translucent visor as a tribute to her older sister. Most of her exposed skin is crystallized to balance out her quirk during battle.

Personality

Sango is a cheerful, yet reserved woman who often comes across as air-headed to Class 1-A. However, she is quite thoughtful and stern, and not afraid to be strict. She isn’t afraid to give brutally honest opinions, and is unbothered when criticized for doing so. She cares greatly for all of the students, never hesitating to help them. (WIP)

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Sango has proven herself to be a volatile opponent. She combines her strength and smarts in order to take down enemies, which earned her the No. 8 Hero rank. When off the job, she works hard to be a role model to the young heroes-in-training at U.A., doing her best to help them succeed.

  • Enhanced Durability: With her quirk activated, Sango is able to withstand attacks from powerful adversaries due to the stability of her crystal armor. Unless the crystals are broken off or part of her exposed skin is hit, she doesn’t typically gain many major injuries.
  • Enhanced Agility: Even without the aid of her quirk, Sango has quick reflexes and exceptional speed. Despite her lack of brawn, she is athletic, small enough to evade her enemies and slip into small spaces.
  • Enhanced Strength: When none of her skin is crystallized, Sango is not particularly strong; however, the crystal armor acts as a stabilizer, and allows for a significant increase in strength when her quirk is activated.

Keen Intellect: Sango values intelligence over brute strength, and evaluates a situation before jumping straight in. Her levelheadedness frequently kept her friends out of trouble as a U.A student. She skipped a grade in middle school, proving that she is accomplished in academics as well as hero work.

Quirk

Crystallize (結晶化 Kesshō-ka): Sango’s quirk enables her to incase her body in a durable crystal armor, and also generate/manipulate crystals.

She can morph her armor into sharp points and ridges, such as when she utilities her super move Double-Edge Sword, sharpening her hands and lower arms into sword-like weapons. Sango’s crystal generation works similarly, as she can shift them into any shape she wants within reason.

A notable drawback of her quirk is the need to balance out the armor and the generation. The more she forms crystal armor, the less she is able to manipulate the crystals. As a child, Sango demonstrated her power by accidentally crystallizing her family’s entire house with a tap of her hand. However, in full armor, she quickly becomes tired and cannot easy produce crystals. She deals with this weakness by frequently crystallizing half of her body, therefore effectively balancing her quirk to use it for both offense and defense.

In the past, villains have pursued Sango in an attempt to steal the crystals she generates to sell them. It is largely rumored that her crystals are diamonds, and Sango herself has hinted at it, but it is never confirmed or denied. Since she isn’t keen on anyone confirming this fact, she constantly has to make sure to destroy any crystals she leaves behind during a battle. If Sango is aware that a villain she is fighting is out to take crystals from her, she keeps her distance, because breaking them off of her body would cause physical pain, since they are essentially merged into her skin.

Super Moves

  • Shard Shatter (破片粉砕 Hahen funsai):
  • Double-Edged Swords (両刃の剣 Morohanotsurugi):
  • Wall of Diamonds (ダイヤモンドの壁 Daiyamondo no kabe):

Equipment

  • Diamond Earrings: Sango’s earrings are designed to be taken off easily and are filled with sand; when thrown, they break open and release the sand, causing an enemy temporary blindness when thrown into their face. Sango wears them at all times in case of an emergency, only using them when a situation is desperate and she has a clear shot.

  • Team Purple Revolution vs. Robber Villain
  • Buster Union & Purple Revolution vs. Garvey

Trivia:

  • Sango’s name means “coral,” which also happens to be her favorite color.
  • Sango is half-French from her mother’s side, and can speak fluent French.

Quotes

  • (To Shota Aizawa) ”Hey, Shota. It’s been a while. You still look tired.”
  • (To All Might, regarding Izuku Midoriya) ”I’ve never seen a quirk like that...to break your bones every time you use it? Can’t imagine. I can see why you like him, though; he’s a real good kid.”
  • (At Chantale’s grave) ”I’m back, Chantale! Hope you didn’t miss me too much. Brought you a fresh rose...you know, I never thought I’d be able to go back. You know, to being a Pro, seeing my friends without breaking down...but it happened. I’ve found what makes me happy again, and things...things have been going okay. Yeah, I know, I said that. I think I’m finally - after all this time - starting to heal.”
  • (To Class 1-A, regarding the Quirk Apprehension Tests) “If you all really want to be pros, then I suggest you take this seriously. You think getting into this school was hard? Heh, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
  • (To Tomura Shigaraki, regarding Shota Aizawa during the U.S.J. Incident) “Stop, please, tell that creature to let him go! Take me instead!”
  • (To Shota Aizawa) “Remember when we used to come up here? Not for lunch, but in the evenings when all our classes were done? No Oboro, no Hizashi, just us. We would talk for hours, looking out at the city...maybe we should start up the practice again.”
