About

Wildlife Conservation Technician living and working in the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, USA. In his career because he is passionate about the outdoors, definitely not for the money. He is thinking of going back to school and looking at other forrestry and conservationist related careers.

Barley loves to hike and take naps in his hammock near the wildlife center early in the morning. A bit of a slow hiker, Barley usually gets too caught up in observing the wildlife and the forest around him, flipping through his reference books and making lots of sketches in his journals. At home, he loves to bake, particularly breads and pies. Seriously addicted to coffee, he has trouble getting up in the morning without at least one cup.

Though super common, his favorite flowers are the Viginia Bluebells in the spring. He also enjoys hunting for salamanders and frogs in the late winter-mid summer and his favorite frog is the Spring Peeper. How can something so tiny be so loud! Despite enjoying spring flora and fauna, his favorite season is the fall when he can pull out his sweaters and watch the trees change color.

***Though Barley is an "outdoor house cat" that enjoys protecting and preserving local wildlife, real free ranging cats pose a major threat to local wildlife and kill from 1.3-4.0 billion birds and 6.3-22.3 billion mammals annually in the United states. They are also often injured themselves while outdoors. Please don't let your cats roam!***
