A clueless siren hybrid who serves as the cook on the Happy Fortune pirate ship.
He is in love with the captain - Lazarus, but close with the entire crew and their associate ships !
His favorite thing in the world is being called pretty and being gifted objects just as beautiful as him.
Easily distracted by anything shiny, or anything that smells delicious !
He has suffered many hardships in his youth, but works hard on reversing the damage caused to him.
Name can be shortened to 'Tune, nicknamed Lucky

Fortune is a human & anglerfish siren hybrid.
He was born with mutations which include:
ㅤㅤ• Gills on his neck and under his ribs
ㅤㅤ• An anglerfish antenna
ㅤㅤ• Clusters of scales scattered randomly across his body
ㅤㅤ• Fins that grow out of his forearms and thighs
ㅤㅤ• A small tail that is an extension of his spine
ㅤㅤ• Extremely sharp teeth
ㅤㅤ• Slime that occassionally forms under his scales
He has underdeveloped lungs which allow him to breathe on land for a few hours,
but must either submerge himself in water or pour it on his gills to avoid suffocating.
While capable of singing siren songs, it's upsetting to use on friends and see them change.
He is ashamed of his siren parts and attempts to hide them around strangers
out of fear of being attacked or shunned.
Often chips away at his scales and has cut his fins to shorten / hide them but they always grow back.
With age his ears grow longer with downward points, his scales increase,
his fins lengthen and tail increases in size.
Through his life he gains weight and occassionally tans (and sunburns)
♦ Important Design Notes
Fortune's eyebrows always point upwards in a worried expression.
They consist of a wavy shape with 2 upwards dents.
His eyes are solid black but can be shiny, with low eyelids.
It's fine to draw him with very small irises / dot eyes ! I think it's cute !
He has naturally long, dark eyelashes.

>When shocked or surprised I think it's funny to draw his eyes as an empty outline with a pupil.
His nose looks small head on, but is long and pointy in profile (think FKMT designs) with a gently upturned bridge.
It's fine to draw his nose longer than I do !
His mouth has a wavy shape with a point in the middle and upturned corners, making him appear as if he was smiling all the time (but it's just his neutral expression)
I generally prefer his lips being shaped by the pink /orange tint of them with faint outlines !
Basically he should always look like he's making this face <:^}
He has two moles on his face - next to right mouth corner and below left eye (from his point of view)
and a lot randomly scattered across his body.
As far as build goes, he is thin in his younger years and gets gradually fatter -
so any weight you think looks cute on him is fine !
♦ Fashion & Wardrobe
His main outfit consists of a peasant blouse with loose, wide pants and sandals.
He always wears small, golden hoop earrings which are a gift from Domi.
When going into town, or visiting unfamiliar ships he wraps a bandana around his neck and sometimes mouth to hide his siren features.
He wears earthy and neutral tones, generally in lighter shades !
His hairbands can be any color.
When tying his ponytail, he pulls his antenna backwards and ties it to his hair with a piece of string.
While he grows bodyhair, he also shaves it. He can't grow much facial hair other than his sideburns.
His hair is always long, at least chin length but can grow as long as covering his entire back !

Trusts easily, which has led to much harm in the past - but it doesn't stop him!
Loves collecting things, especially gems and accessories!
After being introduced to it, becomes obsessed with music even if he can't participate in it.
The sea is his great love, he will spend as much time as he can swimming.
He considers others swimming and cooking with him a grand act of love.
Is eager to meet other non-humans, especially sirens, to the point he'd do anything to befriend them!

♦ Early Life
He was born to a human father and anglerfish siren mother.
His name reflects the fact that a hybrid between his parents' species is not only rare, but lucky to survive. They wanted it to represent his existence being a miracle.
He was sheltered due to his parents worrying people would fear his mutations and attempt to harm him because of them.
Due to his lack of human contact, he had issues feeling empathy for others and always put his own wellbeing first. This is only buffed by his siren nature, which dictates he should hate and eat humans.
His mother wanted to raise him within her siren community, but it was impossible since Fortune has underdeveloped human organs and would stilll involuntarily breathe - filling his human lungs with water and drowning him.
As he grows older he learns to control his breathing underwater, but has formed no bonds with other sirens.
He was raised on a secluded beach in a shack that his father built, learning to fish and read maps. He always had difficulty reading and writing.
♦ Young Adulthood
At the time of his father's passing, his mother demanded that he take his first trip to the city - to see a doctor who could remove his lungs and sew his legs together - making him a full siren that could only live in the sea.
Because of her he learned to hide his siren parts, thinking all humans would be disgusted by them and attempt to kill him because of them.
Once he reached the city, he was completely smitten by the beauty of it. All the pretty people, the variety of colors, the shapes, the shiny objects and even the tall buildings . He was completely won over by the delicious taste of food he's never even known existed.
Due to his natural beauty, but lack of experiences or understanding of relationships, he found himself with many partners for the sole sake of shelter. As a young man he often moved through various apartments, mooched food and clothes off people mesmerized by him and left them without a word.
In his early 20s he realized he'd be most comfortable living on a boat, always being close to water and able to swim but not being tied to it exclusively. Shortly after he joined the Navy.
There he met his first real friends - the eccentric Dominique and the soft spoken Min-soo.
They formed a close friendship - Fortune was taught to cook, while Min-soo repaired ships and Domi was trained to become a captain following in her father's footsteps.
Soon they would spend every night drinking together, changing the schedules to always travel the same boats, shared living quarters and became inseparable.
The other sailors weren't aware of Fortune's mutations, giving him the ironic nickname Lucky since he always seemed to fall off the boat and needed to be fished out.
Eventually, one of his off-boat adventures led to him being lost at sea.
While Domi and Min-soo ran away with a stolen navy ship attempting to find him - forming their own pirate group in the process - Fortune was picked up and abused by stray ships, always on the run, even forced to consume human flesh as an intimidation tactic against their enemies.
It made feeling compassion for others even more difficult.
Once he reached land, he spent years working in a small tavern tending a bar.
♦ Current story
He sets sail again when approached by Lazarus Oleander's crew of pirates, feeling a kinship with them.
After stealing from the tavern's pantry he settled into the ship's kitchen and became their cook.
The group all having experienced hardships would easily understand the pain that Fortune had lived through, their shared experiences helping him care for others and want to protect them from harm as well.
With time and effort it develops into real growth, he starts opening up to people and new experiences - even making friends with the other ships the group associates with.
He gains a genuine passion for cooking as he finds more and more rare ingredients and recipes, always asking his fellow pirates to indulge with him !
Once he falls in love with Lazarus, he pledges his life and heart to him and the ship eternally.
Open extra box. My thought was to use to describe where they live - both the location & their actual home (a house, an apartment, out in the wildnerness). Or like... use for something else if you want.

Was extremely clumsy so along with doing all his work alone, he easily fell off his boat - nearly drowning
