J.C. started a band with his friends, Break, Thundercannon, Rosemary and Retro, called Canine 5 (or just K-5 for short). They were a pretty unknown band for a while until they got the chance to compete in a duel with Rhythmi, which the rest of the band had pestered J.C. into trying out for because of his crush on her. Though they expected to be immediately rejected for being a small, rather inexperienced band, Rhythmi took a shine to them and after their duel it became obvious that Rhythmi found a particular interest in J.C. Despite their success, K-5 would break up a few years later due to creative differences, though all of the bandmates are still friends, save for some distance growing between Thundercannon and the rest of the bandmates.
