About

Charlotte is the current princess of the Apiaceae Kingdom, she has been actively refusing princes from other kingdoms due to the fear that their homes might be the ones responsible for the attack at the marketplace 12 years ago, hence she has not ascended to queen yet but is still fulfilling the role of it.

Background

Charlotte came from a loving and understanding family, it has always been the Apiaceae's kingdom that was receiving high praise from the residents because the Evergreen family ruled over them well, even making time every week to make sure that the farmers, fishermen, and stall owners at the market place are receiving enough money to keep themselves afloat. Oftentimes, when these town visits happen, Charlotte goes to the orphanage to play with the children there, among those children, she met Hemlock who has remained by her side ever since.

When the attack happened, both Charlotte's parents passed away from their injuries, with the disappearance of Hemlock for days after the attack, she was starting to spiral into madness but just as luck will have it, her friend showed up the next day with a newfound power. Who Hemlock was before her disappearance is also unknown to Charlotte.

Personality

Charlotte comes off as bubbly and happy most of the time to almost everyone as long as she is in a good mood. She does show disgust for royals and nobles alike hailing from other kingdoms due to suspicion. When the attack happened, no one was persecuted for the crime and details are unknown except for the fact that the enemy was raising a kingdom's flag but no one alive remembers what it looked like.

She likes to tease Hemlock on a daily basis, telling her which men from the kingdom her friend has piqued the interest of. Hemlock just shrugs off her teasing but lets her do it anyway since she liked hearing her laugh.

Morality

Behind Charlotte's friendly demeanor lies her demon, with suspicion and anger within her, she swore to protect what was left of her kingdom even if it meant blood was going to be spilled. She had originally wanted to wage war one kingdom after the other, with the plan of taking out the messengers first to delay the spreading of the news but Hemlock warned her against it saying that it was a dangerous and risky idea; instead, Hemlock offered to do the killing for her, her kiss can already kill so the method of execution would be cleaner and less suspect. Charlotte was the only left that truly mattered to Hemlock, she considered herself her knight before anything else. Since Hemlock took it upon herself to kill on her behalf, it was her job to keep Hemlock's tracks clean. Most of the time, she would make sure the visiting nobles that wish to marry her (she thinks it is for their personal gain and they would only harm her people).

She would order her circle of knights to ambush and kill everyone of visiting party and just injure the suitor and make the scene look like an animal attack. The suitor is then accompanied back to the kingdom where Hemlock manipulates them using the trauma they just experienced to gain trust and appear empathetic before Hemlock places a kiss on their lips that will take their life. Once dead, Hemlock and one of the other knights will take the lifless body deep into the forest behind the castle and burn it to ashes, scattering it into the river that flows within said forest.

Death

Upon the story''s progression, Hemlock falls in love with Emil but is unable to be with him due to the fear that he may die from her curse. Overtime, both Charlotte and Hemlock noticed that when the former was sick, Hemlock's power was weakened depending on how sick Charlotte became. After careful experimentation of making herself sick on varying degrees on different days, she concluded that she was bound to whatever curse befell Hemlock that day.

She has been struggling with guilt when thinking about all the lives she ordered her friend to take; every single death was by her order and yet no blood was on her hands. Her guilt was mostly for Hemlock, she turned her into the very people she swore revenge on. The kingdom who attacked her, Hemlock and herself, in the end they were all the same.

She wanted to give Hemlock the life she wanted to live but never got to, when Hemlock was out doing errands, she wrote her letter, giving Hemlock her crown and took her own life by drinking some unknown poison; if she was to go, she wanted it to feel like it was by her most trusted friend's hand.

With Charlotte's death, Hemlock's curse disappeared and she was able to live a normal life with Emil and even have two children of her own, one she named after Charlotte.

Hemlock / "Hem" [ Dearest friend ]

Charlotte is most comfortable with Hemlock. She often thinks back on the day of the attack and regret occasionally crosses her mind -- not for those she killed, but for her friend who lived only to serve her and as much as she wanted to let her have her own life, a part of her was selfish -- as selfess as Hemlock was to her. Despite everything, Hemlock only ever saw her as friend and not the evil most saw her as.

Emil Louis Farstead [ Enemy -> Acquiantance ]

Charlotte did not dislike Emil for what he stood for. She can understand why he hated her. She disliked him for the way he was to Hemlock. He would rarely allow Hemlock to write letters to Charlotte while she was imprisoned; something that brought the princess a lot of anxiety, fearing that they may have done the worst to her friend. Fearing that she might never hear from her again.

Once Hemlock was released, her distaste towards Emil lessened especially after hearing how Hemlock has fallen for the man and seeing Emil's loving gazes towards her friend. This made her heart flutter. Her friend finally found someone she truly loved, she can entrust her to him when she takes her own life.
