Physical Description

Red irises, purple hair with dark hues, soft pointy facial features, thin athletic body. Warlock marking on       right cheek. Pale, alabaster skin. Tom's hair was black before he became a Warlock, and his eyes an              oak-wood brown. He was fairly unremarkable.

Mental + Emotional

Quite curious and deep feeling individual. Sensitive. INFP. He also suffers from Arachnophobia. But this is never taken seriously by his mentors and peers, as the incomprehensible fear of something like that is taken very lightly. Psychology was not a widely studied topic by most folk in Arthurian times. Most people would tell him to get over it, but that's impossible; not even Tom understands this fear. The lack of wisdom in this matter will haunt him forever.

Speech

Soft spoken, English accent. Speaks only English and Magin (maj-in), which is the spell casting language of the Warlocks.

Powers

Though he has not reached his full potential yet, Tom is a very talented magician. Through the use of Magin, he is capable of casting high level spells; it is his cleverness that helps him weave them to follow a precise directive. He is hardly ever wrong in wording. But he still has much to learn.

Relationships

Harlan Lanner- mentor; though they have a rocky relationship, there is much love and respect between them.
Finch- mentor and combat trainer; the one that saved his life as a child and brought him into the world of Warlocks. Finch will always be special to Tom.
Rhaban Everhart- mentor and father figure; Tom does his best to learn from Rhaban's mistakes and stories, as well as his teachings. With his real father missing from the picture, he looks up to and admires the man that he knows Rhaban is. Despite his shortcomings. And despite the doubt that stirs in his mentor's mind.

History

Thomas Emory was sired by his parents Alcott Blackwood and Cherilyn Cox, out of wedlock while Cherilyn was engaged to another man in another town outside of Blackwood. Cherilyn, a known gypsy woman, was an infamous thief on the crossroads, causing a lot of distrust from town to town. Fearing that word would get back to her fiance of her untimely pregnancy, but not being able to bare the thought of abandoning a child without a mother, Cherilyn sought out a local hermit only known by the name "Finch," as he was quiet and fluttered about the outskirts of Blackwood like a "bird on the branches
of a Willow
." Finch claimed to know a Warlock (a magic user; not impossible, but extremely uncommon). But Finch foresaw that Cherilyn intended to ask the Warlock to reverse her unfaithfulness, to take the deed away; therefore erasing the life growing in her belly. Sad for the child that would then never be, Finch instead told her that the Warlock had died and could not help her from the grave. Terrified of persecution for her infidelity, she waited out her pregnancy in Blackwood with Alcott, who agreed to keep her hidden safely away in his home. In the early hours of a cool autumn morning, just before
dawn, Cherilyn gave birth to Thomas Emory Blackwood.

As the years passed, the town of Blackwood became a flourishing city. Alcott became a successful carpenter, and Thomas became a young man, learning the skills of the trade, In fact Alcott had made such a name for himself and had taught his son so well, the pair gained their fame as the best carpenters in all of Blackwood. This of course, drew the unwanted attention of a challenger. A carpenter named Mirtle, was the owner of a carpentry business that was steadily decreasing in sales due to Alcott and his son. Mirtle frequently used underhanded means to try and stifle Alcott and Thomas' business, both of which were certain it was Mirtle, but unable to prove it to any authority. One afternoon, Mirtle finally revealed himself to be the cause of their troubles out of anger, and instead challenged Thomas to carve from wood a better sculpture of the King (Arthur), than he could; a man with many more years of experience in the trade. Mirtle challenged Thomas over Alcott, because "if you both really are the best carpenters in all of Blackwood, your teachings instilled in your boy should have me bested either way." Feeling their reputation was severely at stake, Thomas accepted the challenge without thinking, and with the entire Blackwood Market watching.

However, Finch was watching; knowing that the young carpenter couldn't win this challenge. When the day came to present their pieces in front of a crowd of voters, Finch pulled the boy aside without saying a word, and used a spell to perfect the carving before his eyes. Amazed, Thomas barely heard Mirtle's outrage and disbelief.

From that point on, Finch couldn't shake the young carpenter, who mercilessly begged him to tell him how he did it. After a few months, Finch gave in and told him that it was magic, as the boy had suspected. But after answering a flurry of questions, Finch foresaw that Thomas was meant to be a Warlock. Startled, as Warlocks were rare and no average mind could handle the spells, and thus could not be taught them, Finch called upon the Warlock Harlan (whom he had claimed was dead all those years ago). Harlan agreed with Finch that The Warlock of Blackwood was meant to be. And Thomas was
eager to learn magic, as any boy of only 15 would be. Though he did not yet understand the responsibility of his new path in life, one which Alcott did not believe was good or fruitful.

At the age of 18 (currently), Thomas has grown into his path as a Warlock, but still has much to learn.

Beliefs

He has often been curious about the idea of higher powers, but hasn't settled on anything just yet. Ever the free-thinking individual, Tom asks a lot of questions. He believes that continuing to learn (no matter your status or age) is important. To be humble. The world has a lot to offer.
There is also much that Tom believes Harlan is hiding from the younger generation of Warlocks, as "the scarcity of them has not been the way of the past," said the great magician. Tom yearns for further knowledge, and finds Harlan's lack of trust in him to be rather disheartening. Even Finch keeps his secrets, but Harlan is another story. What son of gods he may be, what he knows, is beyond all that Finch's Inner Eye can see. For these reasons, Tom doesn't always believe his Grand Mentor to be telling the whole truth, and can take this distrust out on his other mentors when in a bad mood. He hates being lied to. But also understands that he is young, and hopes that Harlan is waiting for a time when Tom is "truly ready to know."

Daily Life

Tom carved and strung his own harp, and can play it masterfully. It is one of the things he takes the most pleasure in doing in his downtime, aside from magic. He also lives in an old castle with his two mentors, Harlan and Finch, which is situated overlooking a lake and surrounded by heavy forestry. This place, Lanner Castle, is the birthplace of Harlan's forefathers and himself. It is thousands of years old but looks just a couple hundred. Tom enjoys wandering its grounds, as there is always something new to discover there.

Trivia

The marking on his right cheek is a marking that manifests on all Warlocks once their destiny is realized. It can vary in colors, depending on the tone of one's skin. Warlocks' eyes and hair also change color upon the arrival of the marking. These colors are said to the colors of a Warlock's Inner Eye; which determines one's "allowance of magic." Or more simply, their level of power. It is their sanctum of magic, and each is different for each Warlock.
Tom's Inner Eye was said to be "like a gemstone sea," according to Finch: one of the only Warlocks to ever possess the ability to look at another's Inner Eye. The eye looks to be that of someone deeply hopeful, reflecting light in dark places, trustworthy, but powerful. He holds strong magic beneath his skin.
Warlocks also must refrain from killing both man and animal, for the taking of life corrupts the Inner Eye. For this reason, Tom cannot hunt and usually eats fruits and vegetables. But he will eat other things if it has been hunted for him.

"That which is most daunting-- ah, the endeavor most worth pursuing."
