Fujin, God of Wind

Was born as a Tengu who ascended to power as a god (kami).

The older gods look down upon him since he was not originally born as a kami. Is often called a false god despite being officially recognized as the current Wind God by the Immortal Council.

Design Notes

  • He has three (3) sets of wings
  • He has one star red star in the center of his halo
  • The bottom half of his outfit is hakama pants
  • Looks varies from age 25-30
  • His build is muscular and he has some scarring on his body
  • Second image is best reference for his personality.

Temperment and Disposition

Fujin is arrogant, but laid back. A little cocky and a lot of prideful, Fujin is quite anti-social in the gathering of gods and prefers to be around common yokais. He was once a tengu warlord and although his bloodthirsty days are behind him, Fujin still retains a bit of his short temper. He holds no love or faith in his fellow kami, and instead is more loyal to those from the moral realms, especially to tengus. Fujin likes to mind his own business and stay out of other people's affairs, be it gods or mortals. He's a real "it's not my problem (until it is)" kind of guy.

Background

Unlike most gods who were born in the immortal realm, Fujin was born as a common youkai from the tengu clan. As a tengu, family name and prestige did not matter when it came to determining hierarchy. The strongest will lead and Fujin is not a follower. Fujin was headstrong and ruthless and quickly established his status as a leader. He challenged those who were above him and humbled those who oppose him. He made a name for himself and became a warlod among the tengu clan. His arrogance lead him to challenge the previous Fujin for his title. Through trials of strength and games of wits, the prideful tengu took down a god and usurped the title of Fujin, God of Wind.

However, despite him earning his title fair and square, many gods look down on him. He's considered an outsider. A blemish in the immortal realm along with any other mortals who acended to godhood. The scorn of other gods does not bother Fujin in one bit. To him, they were all cowards who spoke behind his back and therefore are not worth his time nor attention. If they really were so oppososed to his role as the new Fujin, then they should speak up so he could put them in their place. However, no one dares challenge him in fear of being humilated like the previous Wind God.

Current

o1. Fujin is in an arranged marriage with a(n unnamed) goddess per request by the tengu clan. Prior to this arrangement, the Tengu clan proposed that Fujin should produce an heir with a woman from their clan. Fujin is not fond of children and does not desire an heir, and so he made the point that even if he were to reproduce an heir, it does not guarantee godhood for the child since Fujin technically has no kami blood within him. He ascended to godhood. If they wanted a tengu with kami blood in them, it means Fujin would need to conceive a child with a kami. Fujin indulged his people, claiming that if they were able to find a goddess who would agree to marrying him and bearing him a child, he would go through with it. Although, he made the declaration thinking that no goddess would accept since he's quite the troublemaker among the immortal realm. Much to his surprise though, the clan was able to find someone.

Now Fujin is in the preparation stage of his arranged marriage. As a result of the arrangement, Fujin is to attend Kikunaga's shrine weekly for a full year to receive blesing from the fertility god. However, during the first session, Fujin had secretly requested that Kikunaga helped him prevent pregnancy, to which Kikunaga took offense. How dare he ask something so shameful of a fertility god. Angered by Fujin's inconsideration, Kikunaga not only turned down the request, but instead gave Fujin blessings for many children, much to Fujin's annoyance.

Fujin does little to hide his reluctance and the goddess could only humor him so much. Annoyed at his attitude, she extended the preparation period from one year to two, claiming that Fujin needs to prove his commitment by attending the blessing sessions on his own will without her with him. She will attend separately too. If he can attend weekly for an entire year, she will accept the marriage, otherwise she would call it off.

Many expected Fujin to bail, but despite his reluctance, Fujin deeply cares for his people and wants to honor their wish. So now Fujin is stuck visiting Kikunaga's shrine weekly as part of his marriage preparation.
