⇀ Description

DiaoChan’s favorite colors are forest green and a yellow-gold. She also likes to wear things made out of leather. Her fashion typically leans towards what most would describe as steampunk. She likes to wear metal trinkets, particularly gears and keys, and always in gold. Emeralds are her favorite jewels, tho she likes any stone or gem that is dark green.

DiaoChan’s spirit is an uncommon type called a Trudix. It’s a canine-style spirit. Liang likes to wear cute ribbons and collars. Any color is acceptable, but his favorites tend to be a black or dark brown base with gold or green accents or highlights.

⇀ Important Notes

  • Hair can be different styles if roughly the same length, will never be different colors.
  • Should never have tail pictured without lantern.
  • Liang may be pictured outside lantern but never without DiaoChan.
  • SFW allowed.
  • Feel free to ask if you want to borrow her for art, but keep in mind I reserve the rights to publish the resulting piece in her galleries. If someone is asking to get me a surprise, it's okay if it's SFW, but make sure to note it to me when done just in case! :D

Personality

⇀ Description

When acting as a Tea Maiden, DiaoChan is the most gracious host. Elegant and graceful, she always seems to know the right thing to say for each guest. She is trained in the art of Chinese tea ceremonies. While the Chinese way still attaches great significance to the ceremony of tea-drinking, they have tended to move away from super rigid structures. They are primarily social and involve humor and jovial fun and lighter attitudes are encouraged, versus the silence of a traditional Japanese ceremony. And while Japanese ceremonies tend to be for philosophical or religious reasons, Chinese tend to hold their ceremonies for celebration.

However, outside of work she allows herself to relax and be herself. She can be overly sensitive and sometimes this causes her to overreact. She can have a temper if she feels provoked. However, she is also gentle and very friendly. Sometimes this can lead her to letting this side of her get abused, which is normally when Momo or Cho will step in to take action. She can also get scared very easily and doesn’t like scary movies or haunted houses.

History

⇀ Background

DiaoChan is named after a female character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. She used her feminine wiles to help depose the most cartoony supervillain of the novel….whose actions pretty much all took place in real life. I love her and the novel. Liang, her guardian spirit, is named after Zhuge Liang who is the Master Strategist for one of the “good guys” in the novel. This novel is one of the biggest influences on Chinese history, and I’m really getting into it. I’m listening to it via the “Romance of the 3 Kingdoms Podcast”, which you should check out if you ever have time.

DiaoChan was raised in the Tail Guardian equivalent of China in their world. She was raised by adoptive parents after her mother died in childbirth. They taught her the art of the Chinese Tea Ceremony. They were older when they adopted her. When they passed away, she decided to travel to meet friends of her parents in their equivalent of Japan. Those friends happened to run the Tengoku Tea Garden, a Japanese style tea garden. She hit it off with their daughters Momo and Cho, and they ended up hiring her on to diversify the types of parties they offered.

⇀ Family

DiaoChan’s adoptive parents adopted her before she can remember. They were always honest with her about adopting her but made sure she understood that they did not love her any less and that they had chosen her. They were a very close knit family, working together as well as living together. However, they were older when they adopted her, and therefore died of old age when she was in her mid-20s.

While her adoptive parents were not Tail Guardians, they had been close friends with her mother, which is how they ended up adopting her. They made extra sure that she grew up learning the lore and specific history of her species, and were very proud of her when she built her lantern and gained Liang as her partner spirit.

⇀ Important Moments

  • DiaoChan’s adoptive parents first met the Murasaki’s at an international tea convention. They met several other times at the same convention in later years, and kept in touch through a variety of ways otherwise. The children had never previously met because DiaoChan always was in charge of the store when they went to the big conventions and mostly attended smaller and more local gatherings.
  • DiaoChan’s spirit and her are very loving in their relationship. They are very close to each other and Liang is the main thing that helped her handle it when her adoptive parents passed away from natural causes.
