Esma came from a community of kirin that were extremely devoted to the dragons they believed they were decended from. None so devoted as Esma's parents, the High Priest & High Priestest. Theirs was a pairing of stature & tradition, not one of love. They both believed that their child would be the purest of their kind, immortal & nearly equal in power to the ancient dragons themselves. And when Esma was born, she was raised with this belief. She was told she was the Chosen of her kind, that she was a Goddess & truely immortal. However, when she was still quite young, a great danger threatened her people. Her parents believed she was ready & told her she needed to defend her kind. Esma had been trained for battle, but had never actually experianced it. And her first learning curve was a very steep one. As she was struck from the sky, one wing torn from her body, she was hit with harsh truth-- she was not a God, she was mortal, and she was going to die. She did survive, but her parents never visited her as she recovered, and she never saw them again. She left her community when she was well enough to travel, and she has been wandering the world ever since, just trying to learn how to be... normal.
