Vivienne Beaumont was born a frail child, her sickness kept her from going outside and mingle with other children. Despite all treatments given, it was inevitable that she wouldn't survive past adolescent. It's a fact that she herself is aware of. While she has fully accepted her fate, she regrets the fact that she will probably die before experiencing true love. Therefore, wanting to live her days fully and make up for the future she would never have, she tries to be an 'adult' even though she's incredibly childish at heart.
