Sootsoul [EA]

You wouldn't expect Sootsoul to be easy to miss. The feline is large enough to almost be mistaken for a boulder, several inches taller than an average cat and with the width to match. His thick fur, though moderately clean, is always messy and poofy, lending him an even larger appearance than his bone structure alone. He looks every bit the boulder his size might create of him, his colors a mix of greys and browns blending together in a classic tabby pattern and splashed with matte charcoal. It's a striking combination, truth be told.

But something about his quiet demeanor and presence leave him lonely and easy to miss. Piercing yellow eyes are often directed to the ground, and he rarely shoves himself into conversations or situations that don't already involve him in some way. Still, his expressions are kind and easy to read. Perhaps he's not as scary as his big appearance suggests.

Sootsoul was born quiet. Even as a kitten he spoke only rarely, preferring to settle into the comfortable corners at the edge of the nest and watch as the others played. It wasn’t that he was bullied — his unused size benefitted him even then, and the occasional parroted remark from another kitten’s parent was the worst he would get. The older he’s gotten the less of a problem it’s become, but old habits die hard. He does what he can to stay out of the way and not draw much attention to himself, focusing on doing his job as a warrior as quietly and reliably as he can so as not to draw attention to himself.

In those rare moments when the tomcat does make himself known, he often finds himself acting as the voice of reason. His nonconfrontational way of speaking and gentle love for every creature he meets generally puts him in the role of mediator, overall awkwardness temporarily abandoned for the sake of those close to him. He frequently convinces himself that it is his only use, and seems to have a low self-esteem and a generally insecure outlook. He’s a sweet feline, but often rather lonely. He could use some polishing, but he has potential.
