Mythology

It's the damnedest thing. We saw a fox go after our Little Legend.
I don't know what to make of it.. it's not afraid, heck, they seem to be pals! I don't think I've ever seen a fox and a rabbit so close, or even just a fox quite like that one..
Folks been saying its another legend. It's got three tails after all, and buncha people claim its got antlers too. Would two really be so close?
Perhaps its a blessing; little Fawn Spots won't have to be so lonely anymore.

Lore

The forest blossomed, thriving and lively. Beneath its protective canopy a small rabbit kept a silent vigil. Watching, lurking, searching, it moved constantly from place to place in a never ending quest.

Treating and assisting every plant that needed it the rabbit only ever stopped to view the wildlife. Herds, packs, families, it was such a curious and foreign concept, yet the spirit always made time to stop and observe. What was it that drew them to the others, regardless of their species? Was it the damage they inevitably would cause, or the life they could provide to assist them?

They did not know, or perhaps did not want a straight answer, but it came to them in a sudden scene. The sound of a gunshot ripped through the woods, the herd of deer scattering before the godly creature. Shrouding itself within an illusion it did not run, and the drumming of pawsteps rapidly approached. The doe fell, convulsing as the life left its body, and before it the fawn coward. Why did it not run? The answer would never be known, as the drumming arrived as a snarling, growling dog.

Terrified, the fawn finally ran, passing the hidden rabbit as it fled, but it was no match for the sprinting canine. With a snap of its jaws the small creature was caught, and with a vicious shake its fate was sealed. The wails scoured the god's ears, and a wall of thorns started to grow around them. The dog whined, frightened, and at the whistle of its master ran off to meet them.

Shrouded behind their protective screen Ruri crept toward the dying fawn. It had witness several deaths and hunts before, but watching the young creature bleed out before it stirred an entirely new feeling within the spirit. It was a haunting feeling, a hollow spot within its chest. Tapping it with its nose small sprouts tried their best to spring forth, but they were drowned by the flow of blood. The dying deer's eyes flicked, looking, pleading with the spirit as the life left its eyes. Standing to attention, and bouncing around the fawn with a motion akin to desperation a prayer went out.

The forest went dark, light no longer penetrating the foliage as a shimmering fog spread around the two beings. The fawn had stopped moving, its blood no longer flowing as plants were finally able to grow and covered its sorrowful form. They tightened until neither sight nor smell could be perceived, and the rabbit went still with grief. The fog swirled tighter as the vines coiled to form one powerful stem, and as it grew a massive blossom formed on top.

Something was.. vaguely nostalgic about the scene, forcing the rabbit to watch as the short plant finally bloomed. In a shower of shimmering pollen a small creature rested and yawned upon the petals, its shape blurred by light as the bun stared in disbelief. With a massive stretch the tiny spirit stood on new paws, and kneading the spot of its creature suddenly sprung to life. Leaping from the pink flower it bounced about the foggy space, leaving flowers in its wake before darting off into the underbrush. The rabbit, overwhelmed with unknown emotions, had no choice but to follow.

Trivia

  • Colloquially known as Fawn Phlox and 'White-tailed Phlox' for its coloration.
  • Really loves bugs, all kinds of them. Often dirty from playing with them.
  • Tail size/length doesn't really matter, the fluffier the better.
  • Loves sticks and fetch. Often seen chewing on them.
  • Born of Ruri's desire for companionship.
  • Due to this they are not as powerful/a lower rank demigod.
Observations

While this spirit fox looks a great deal like their closest companion they are truly the opposite of dear Ruri.

While unrelated to a dog their most prominent traits follow that of puppies. Being playful, vocal, and rambunctious, they can easily be a tiny terror who will get into everything. From paws, teeth, and jumps, nothing is safe from endless curiosity and energy. Unlike most fox they often charge through the open space, splashing and swimming in the light without a moment of hesitation.

From their fox nature they are smart, cunning, persistent, and driven. While they are weary of frightening situations curiosity always wins out. They love food, enough though they do not need to eat, and will put nearly anything in their mouth. Often they carry trinkets around for hours.
They have also shown craftiness. Whiles its usually good natured, hide-and-seek if you will, they can and will transfigure themself into a small natural object to hide. They can also alter other objects and plants to create illusions such as a wall, impassable path, or monster made of leaves.

While unclear if its their spirit or deer side, they are forcibly cautious and observant. While often protected and shied away by Ruri, their instincts make them more prone to sneak or run when needed. While not a prey drive perhaps a deep memory keeps them away from those with intent to kill.

Does not speak but often makes many different yips. Its unclear if these are actual words or meaningful sounds to other foxes, but they continue to make them. Uses body language and actions to communicate as well.

As a spirit, they can control plants to form/do whatever is desired. Making bridges, slopes, tunnels, using ivy, roots, stems, ect. Whatever area they pass through is always in better shape than before they arrived. While they are a companion for the forest protector they are a protector in their own right. While not as skilled in mending and healing plants they can make them blossom and fruit easily, as well as producing new shoots and branches.
They are a solid, corporeal being. While they can create a misty trial and surrounding fog any 'fading' or blurring of their body is an illusion.
