Sigurd was abandoned at a young age, and quickly became one of many street urchins in his port town. He grew up fascinated with the ocean, wanting nothing more than to become a sailor, but those dreams were set aside due to his need to focus on staying alive. At 17 he tried to rob a shack by the ocean, hoping for food or something to sell; instead he found nothing and was caught by the owner of the home. The owner, who was a witch, cursed him, telling him that he would one day "return to the ocean which he loved so much." Her curse made it so that if he was ever submerged in the ocean, he would transform into ocean water, becoming one with it. Sigurd tried his best to move on from that encounter, not giving up his dream. Eventually, at 21, he found a ship whose crew would take him on, despite the fact that even the spray of mist from the ocean would slowly transform his body. He quickly became close with the crew, all of them becoming like a family.
