In my au the rainbow factory IS a real place with a bad reputation ... but the reputation is completely false. It's true that Pegasus society deems worth on how well you fly, but the factory is only 'bad' in the sense that workers are tired and want to go home, but have to constantly make rainbows to keep up a happy facade in equestria ... they need a break bro. Other than that, the factory itself is actually harmless with just ghost stories floating around on what happens inside. Pegasus parents often tell their fillies 'if you don't study you will get taken to the rainbow factory!' To make sure they study for their flight tests and exams
