Fox and Chessur meet around the beginning of world war 1 and manage to fake their deaths and change their identities into women and join a professional traveling performance group in order to dodge the draft. At the time of the story they're too far in to even consider quitting and simply live their lives as they are. Until Bigby, a private investigator and veteran, appears and starts snooping around their performance company due to an anonymous tip of possible connections to the mob. Fox and Bigby knew each other in the past and were secret sweethearts, before Fox faked his death.
