A modern, fantasy romance set in a D&D-like universe. Olive Sugarstripe ventures out of her reclusive community, the Great Forest, in the Fey Realm. Her mission? To be a participant on the hit reality dating game show called "The Dollhouse." What sets The Dollhouse apart from other reality dating shows is not just its mental and physical game challenges, but also the fact that each of the participants are veiled in anonymity magic for the first part of the show, giving nothing away about their physical attributes. But as participants win challenges and points, they are free to unlock the features of those they take an interest in. Think Love is Blind meets Big Brother. Olive just has one...tiny problem. She joins the show not as her four inch, tiny Dryad frame, but piloting her human-like doll instead, hoping to blend in and keep her secret. She can't bear to start another relationship with heartbreak and disappointment because of her size.
Unfortunately, keeping secrets comes at a cost of them being found out too soon, and a certain vampire participant named Saber Vatosh has his eyes on Olive's strange behaviors. It doesn't help matters when he notices the tiny intruder in the house, but for some reason, the anonymity magic does not affect the tiny dryad. Why? The question drives Saber to pursue her that much more, hoping to learn who she is and what connection the tiny being holds to Olive.
From there, a slow-burning romance ensues between the dryad who yearns for acceptance, and the vampire with a chip on his shoulder.
Alsou Rii and Mivari are neighboring countries to one another, but its relationship at best is strictly one-sided. Most citizens of Mivari do not know of Alsou Rii's existence. There was once a time they did, many centuries ago, but that was before the creation of the Veil. The Veil ensures that its Alsou'riian blood is allowed in and out from the country easily. Anyone else who ventures through, unwanted, will find themselves turned round and round again in a seemingly cyclical forest. Mivari's kingdom tends to its own, while Alsou Rii does the same.
Liliana is the last Canmore of her family; having lost her parents at a young age to tragic circumstances, Liliana ascended to the throne as Queen of Mivari at age eight, with the 'guidance' of her Council's words of wisdom. However, Liliana knows what her role equates to by their standards: she is little more than a figurehead with barely the chance to make her decisions as queen. But she fights to allow herself one choice, however. The choice to choose her personal knight, and she just so happens to choose her newest recruit of the Canmore guard—a mysterious, 'tall, dark, and handsome' Remy Wulf. Her attraction to him is instant. Whether it's the way he talks, how he carries himself, or how tall he is, Liliana finds herself spellbound to discover more of his secrets. And Remy has a trove of hidden lore.
Remy Wulf is the Silver Prince of Alsou Rii, and the surname is no mere moniker. Originating from deep within Alsou Rii, there are half human and half animals that exist among humans. Descendants of higher beings like Fenris, Sleipner, and other mythological creatures, traditionally, the half-animal denizens are known as Semifers. In lesser terms, as Mivari dubs them, they are 'beasts.' That is the world Remy navigates when he crosses the Veil to reside in Mivari, all with the hopes of joining the Queen's Royal Guard. Some of his reasons are just: the erasure of Mivari's treatment toward people like him would be a greater boon to both nations. His other reason, however, is far more selfish. Having met Liliana when they were both children, he can't help but want to rekindle their lost friendship, even if she does not seem to recognize him.
Humans have gone into hiding. They've not reached the brink of extinction just yet, but on some days, it truly feels like it.
No one quite knew how the birds came into existence. Some believed that the humans were a more diminutive version and the birds had always reigned the primary race of the world; others felt as though the birds were a manmade creation and had simply grown out of humanity's control. Whatever the case may have been, there was no denying that these birds savagely ripped apart what used to be.
No roads. No society. No civilization. Every day lives as though it's its last.
A semi post-apocalyptic style world where humans live in hiding from giant birds called Harpies (loosely based on some Tengu folklore). Harpies come in different "breeds" (i.e. parrot, jay, peacock, etc.) and range anywhere from twenty feet to upwards of a hundred. They are human in features and some mannerisms but terribly feral in other ways, such as their acute senses, inhuman noises, and a propensity for devouring humans.
The Harpies cultural life is broken into tribes and clans, of which they share the same 'surname.' At the top are Elders, which are the oldest members of the nest and the most magically in-tune with nature. The species as a whole lives for a couple hundred years, but elders live for double that time—sometimes close to five-hundred. The oldest recorded Elder was eight-hundred. Elders are responsible for any decisions pertaining to border disputes, boundary-setting, guests from outside clans, and appeasing Spirits. Spirits are regarded as the Harpies' religious symbol: wisp-like figures that connect the birds between nature and magic.
Below Elders are the apprentices, who train to become Elders. They would be regarded next in the chain of command if an Elder was in need of disposal. Every other point of business in the nest is left as a democracy, or to the more outspoken individuals of the clan.
