Introduction

Tathar is my personal world, made specifically to cater to my characters and interests. Each island provides a different setting with its own inhabitants and magic system, and the goal of the world is to be flexible enough to house nearly any kind of character I want to make. I specifically utilize an area of it known as the Chekomi vein.

You are welcome to utilize the world/universe of Tathar for your characters non-commercially. There can be any number of other continents of varying sizes; the officially mapped portion of it is very small. This means that you could very feasibly come up with your own veins, continents, and accompanying siatos without worrying about interfering with the "canon." You're also free to simply utilize existing locations, again abiding their respective lore.

Celestials

The astronomical objects and bodies in the universe are predominantly living, sentient things themselves, with conscious thought and awareness. Collectively the living ones are called celestials, and are treated like their own species. They speak a language that is incomprehensible to anything lesser than a celestial; siatos come the closest to being able to naturally hear it, but it's comparable to whalesong to them, and they still can't derive much meaning from it beyond basic emotion/intent. Celestials are not prone to conversation in any case, and even when speaking to each other their language is rough and simple.

Some terms, astronomical or otherwise, are also modified or used for different purposes.


Black Holes

Black Holes are the most feared of the celestials. Occasionally born from the deaths of stars, they are mindless and all-consuming, with an inescapable gaping maw that entraps any other nearby celestials. They are considered the greatest threat to the living universe due to being effectively immortal, and are also surrounded by mystery due to their destructive nature preventing even other celestials from discovering anything about them. As their motivation or reason is unknown, it's presumed they have none. They are strong enough to ensnare large sections of galaxies, and will often do so in order to leisurely consume the resident star systems.

Not a single being truly knows the true nature of black holes, and any existing perceptions are based on the above, not the below.

Black holes are not particularly malevolent, instead only seeking to prosper with the life they're given. The black hole is not a death state, but instead a new stage of life, akin to metamorphosis. As a star explodes and collapses inward, creating a hole in time and space itself, so too does all the matter they pull in violently explode outward into a brand new universe contained within them. It's impossible to pass through a black hole into another universe, as everything that goes through a black hole is torn apart in the process. In order to continually populate their universe with materials, black holes consume everything around them.

Consuming materials does not completely destroy them though, in a sense; their 'blueprints' still exist (likely carried within siatine), which affects what forms in the new universe- namely the shapes of celestials and siatos, which mortals are then often modeled after. All of this can result in multiple universes having surprisingly similar creatures depending on what's eaten by the black hole.

In the rare event of two black holes merging, the universes will both be shredded and recombined into a single new one.


Nebulae

Nebulae are star nurseries; massive stretches of energy and material that regularly coalesces into new stars, which once formed, often quickly flee to avoid being consumed by other nearby stars. The materials usually come from deceased celestials, such as battling planets or stars.


Stars

Stars are celestials made of a form of pure siatine, which they use as fuel. While they don't by typical definitions need to eat, being able to live for incredibly long stretches of time without, it's definitely common for stars- especially ones who are nearing the ends of their lives- to hunt and consume each other in order to refill their own fuel stores, with the only deterrent being the risk of a dying star becoming a black hole.

Every star's goal is to find a method to continually generate fuel for themself without needing to run the risk of killing other stars, and this is the reason that many stars create planets, in order to help solve this problem. Most stars with planets remain in a dormant resting state, wherein they can conserve as much energy as possible, and thus prolong their life as long as possible.


Galaxies

Galaxies are communities of millions to billions of star systems living close together; the 'cities' of the universe.


Systems

Systems are groups of celestials, usually familial ones like stars and their planets. The type of system is determined by the most powerful entity inside of it. A star and its planets would be called a star system: a group of galaxies would be named after the largest galaxy among them.


Planets

Planets are the children of stars. Born from icy stones that are perpetually given siatine from their star, planets begin life entirely covered in water, and become more terrestrial as they age. Planets have the same goal as their stars; finding a perpetual fuel source, as the death of their star has a chance of being violent enough to kill them as well- but even if it doesn't, their own energy will rapidly deplete without either a connection to a star, or actively hunting other planets.

In order to help with their star's task, many planets will form life of their own, as the high capacity for ingenuity of mortals is well-known even to celestials, mostly due to how much faster time travels for them, as well as their superior capability for putting their minds together to accomplish a task. In order to not disturb the mortals, life-bearing planets will remain almost exclusively in a dormant state.

Planets that do not bear life are generally predatory in nature. Planets hunt other planets with the use of their tendrils; massive tubes tethered to their core and made of siatine that end in sharp spikes for piercing. With the tendrils, planets aim to pierce the crust of other planets and drain their cores of siatine, leaving behind dead husks that will eventually fall apart and be recycled. These tendrils are also used defensively, as while the core's siatine is vulnerable to being consumed, the siatine within the tendrils is modified to act more like a destructive venom, so planets must take care to avoid piercing the tendrils.

When planets go dormant, they encircle their crust and core with their tendrils; think of a ball of yarn. This makes them practically impossible to safely hunt, and protects them in their otherwise vulnerable state, further ensuring the life they bear will go undisturbed by other planets. The encircled tendrils also serve to nourish and thicken the planet's crust, further fortifying it. Due to this, the tendrils of dormant planets are often called "world veins" instead. This thickening crust slowly pushes the veins closer to the surface of the planet's water, though, and when they contact the atmosphere, thinner veins are prone to rupturing and spilling their siatine into the air and water, forming islands and siatos.


Gas Giants

Gas giants are dead planets who failed to properly form, their materials will most often eventually be consumed by another celestial.


Moons

Moons and other small, icy celestial objects are immature planets that have not finished developing yet. Usually, stars will wait until moons are at least Earth-sized to start giving them siatine.


Siatos

Siatos are a species of incredibly powerful creatures, often regarded as gods by mortals. Siatos have varying degrees of control over reality, being able to manipulate anything from the shape of the land, to the mortals who live in it, to how the laws of physics and spirituality operate. They are born during a world vein rupture, alongside the creation of a new island, to which they will eventually be bound. While relatively weak when they're born, they become more powerful as they age and their island grows.

Siatos are naturally immortal, and will live as long as the planet they draw their power from does, or until their body is completely destroyed, something only feasible by another siatos of equal or greater strength. While siatos can bleed, they can not bleed out and do not suffer any effects associated with blood loss. They bleed pure siatine, which is infinitely provided to them by the planet. When a siatos is injured, they pose a significant risk to the surrounding area due to the reality-warping properties of raw siatine.

There are some circumstances that can result in a siatos becoming temporarily or permanently mortal. For protosi, if they run completely out of energy and continue to expend it instead of waiting for it to refill, they risk losing their immortality or dying outright. For megalsi, leaving the shore of their birthland will limit their otherwise infinite pool of energy, which if then completely spent will result in them becoming mortal until they can get back to their birthland. Notably, while siatos have an innate capability for levitation-based flight, this ability relies on using energy, meaning wingless megalsi with no energy could very well get stranded on other landmasses with no safe way back. Siatos also have the ability to willingly make themselves mortal, though exceedingly few do this.

Something worth noting is that siatos do not speak the languages of any mortals, but they can still 'commune' with all mortals. They understand approximate meaning and intent, and can communicate their own approximate meaning and intent back to the mortal. This is somewhat comparable to how humans have rudimentary understanding of the intent and body language of animals, and likewise many animals can discern the emotional state of humans. A siatos actually speaking, such as to another siatos, is completely incomprehensible (and usually distressing) to mortals. Testimonies from those who have witnessed siatos speaking describe the experience as "an earthquake, but in the air and in your body."

Communication between siatos and mortals can become somewhat more complex and intuitive over time, similar to studying the behavior of a specific animal and learning how to better communicate with it, but there is no way to achieve a direct linguistic connection with siatos, much like how no matter what, a dog will never comprehend the concept of English enough to understand the written word.

Siatos are divided into two categories depending on their age:


Protosi 

Relatively young siatos who are born of newly-formed islands, which they can control to a limited extent. Protosi are more restricted in their abilities, namely being unable to affect death itself, lacking a personal domain, having a personal pool of energy that is emptied and refilled instead of being able to draw continuously from the planet, and overall not being able to affect things quite as extensively or dramatically as megalsi. They gain more power as their birthland expands, whether naturally or by their own will- though the latter can be dangerously draining. When a protosi begins to deplete their energy, they can yield their immortality to unlock an additional burst of power and become mortal, or attempt to keep their immortality and risk dying outright if they continue to overspend their energy. When a protosi's land becomes big enough, they become a megalsi, but the exact threshold for this is not known.

One benefit protosi have over megalsi is not being so bound to their birthland; megalsi can not travel beyond the shores of their land without risking running out of magic, while protosi could comfortably abandon the planet outright and choose to explore space instead for long stretches of time. A land without a siatos will still develop, but the landmass will grow much, much more slowly, and life will have to develop on its own.

Protosi can mate with mortals to produce a particularly powerful mortal, or with a megalsi, but not with another protosi. The child from a protosi/megalsi pairing will occupy the same land as the megalsi parent, and is the only way to tether multiple siatos to one landmass other than by two separate islands fusing together.


Megalsi 

Extremely powerful siatos. While the full power of megalsi is restricted to their birthland, they now exercise complete control over it, from its shape and terrain, to its climate, to how much of the planet's energy the resident mortals can utilize and in what way, to even how death itself operates. Megalsi can still leave their birthland and take with them a small pool of magic as protosi do, but as megalsi age this pool grows smaller and smaller as they become more and more dependent on the direct flow of magic from the planet.

Megalsi all have have a pocket dimension they can live in away from the mortal realm, which they also exercise complete control over- and can decide who's let into it.

Megalsi can not mate with mortals, but can mate with other megalsi or protosi. The process of mating is very different for siatos than mortals. For protosi, this is more dependent on intent and contact. For megalsi, the process is much more dramatic: both megalsi will meet on one of their landmasses and combine their powers to tear off a piece of it. Once this piece is isolated, the energy spent by both siatos and the trauma caused to the underlying world vein will manifest into a new protosi to occupy the island. This process is very risky, as it involves one megalsi leaving their land and limiting their power, so it's only done by megalsi who trust each other deeply.


Mortal 

Typically weak beings with relatively short lifespans, which are known by the celestials for their ease of communicating with each other, which enables rapid development. Mortals live on a miniscule amount of the planet's energy, so when they do eventually die, this energy is freed from its vessel. If they died in the land of a megalsi, what happens to this spirit is up to the megalsi. In the event of this not being an option, like dying in a protosi's land or otherwise beyond any megalsi's reach, the spirit will merge with the planet's energy and lose anything that identified it as an individual, such as its memories and appearance.


Siatine

Magic, a bright gold colored liquid. It can be found in most things to some degree, but especially in anything personally made by a siatos.
It is, in simple terms, also what causes things to be “alive.”

Siatine is found in smaller amounts in things that can rely on other sources for life. The ground and rocks have very small amounts due to a lack of demand and are more just leftovers from when the ground was formed. Plants have small amounts due to getting energy from light and water as well, but plants in harsher locations will rely more on siatine, thus having more of it and being more yellow in color. Plants can also grow in darkness or extreme heat or cold due to siatine. Early mortals were rich in siatine, but due to having all sorts of sources for energy would rapidly lose it, though this is often theorized to be the reason mortals can access magic "by default".

The greatest concentrations of siatine are in the world veins, and in the core of the world itself. However, raw siatine from the veins is incredibly volatile and dangerous, at its worst being capable of rending reality, but more often causing a physical, physiological, and/or psychological change in its surroundings and anyone near it. Siatine is more safely collected after it has been ‘filtered’ through something, most often plants, rocks, and newly-formed land. However, it can also be found in large amounts in younger or more magical species’ bodies, for example the meyumas of Endelon and novus of Allerya are naturally rich in siatine.


Marine Fauna

The inhabitants of Tathar's oceans are, for the most part, mysterious and poorly documented. This is mostly due to the dangers posed by aerilaes and akmuulas, who both make it extremely treacherous to go out to sea.


Rasnuuk

kind of a snail turtle? it chills near the surface all day then at night it extends and eats the algae that grows on its shell. has often been used for respite by those lost at sea, so its one of the more well documented marine creatures. can move surprisingly quickly when threatened by producing a jet of water, may use this for defense by bashing into attackers, possibly lacerating them with the sharp edges of its shell.


Aerilae

the other well documented marine creature. the reason why you cant just simply fly over the oceans to check out the other islands. the combined personality of an arowana and archerfish, hunts things over the ocean, either by leaping out at them or shooting them down with jets of water. will also enthusiastically go after anything that fits in its mouth. often hunt in groups.


Memolami

big thing with the personality of a manatee, fairly well documented due to being quite passive. social, grazes on aquatic plants in groups.


Anakooro

giant walking reef shelf, a detrivore that mainly feeds on the waste produced by the things living on it.


Lomafa

big water millipede, walks along the bottom sifting for food.


Akmuula

functionally a mosasaur with the personality of a betta, pretty much the only thing strong enough to break the shells of rasnuuks. territorial and prone to seeing ships as either rivals, or rasnuuks.
