In 1937 after the accidental murder of a studio executive as a result of Tex Matthew's curse, the musician finds himself seeking refuge in a past affair with criminal lawyer Ronnie Haynes. He successfully turns the tables in order to keep Haynes on his good side for defense in court, and things go smoothly until defense attorney Harrison Fletcher and hollywood reporter Sugar enter the picture. Keen on keeping his reputation in tact, Tex and Ronnie delicately waltz around allegations and prosecutions to avoid a death sentence.
