THE WANDERER

she / her | intj

Deuteronomy 32:35. It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.
Wanderer carries a bible, its pages well thumbed and rehearsed, though she affirms there is no God any longer. Around her neck is a rosary and a silver necklace of XI. JUSTICE, in her blood there is circuitry, and in her flesh is seared metal plates. The Wanderer grew up alone, hated, and trapped - but outside of the vault, cruelty finds you in abundance. You almost couldn’t fault her for what followed next.

The Courier’s been on his own for a long time, but he’s always found ways to fill the void. Lovers, syringes, alcohol and self-punishment. He’s a drifter, born Brotherhood, captured by the Legion, saved by the Khans and lured by the lonesome road. Anything to keep his mind off of his failures; anything to keep caps in his pocket and a haze in his memory. As long as he’s far away from Nevada, it doesn’t matter what it takes. And what a coincidence that the first time he decides to go back in 8 years, he gets shot in the head.
Well, all things considered, he’s real thankful that bullet to the cranium didn’t end him.

Valerian's worst fear was Fatherhood. In the mirror he could see his Father, something deeper than their skin and blood tethering them. He can remember the clink of a rosary in hand, blood on his temples and the revolting fear he knew as a child, and deep inside of him he feared what he could become. In a tumultuous and war-stricken world, a young Valerian adopted philosophy, morality, and the construction of language. Perhaps if he could contextualize his existence, explain away the nature of man and the universe, then surely he’d find there was some grand meaning to all of this.
And maybe losing Shaun and Maria in Atomic Hellfire was punishment for forgetting all of it. For putting it aside, just once, just so he could live in the real world with the woman he loves and a son he promised to protect thousands of miles away from Danislav.
Or maybe it was a second chance.

She was Caesar’s Dog, feared and hated. She was the Scourge of sinful profligates. She was his puppet, and when she came to realize it, he threw her away. Mutilated and discarded, Canis Feris’s survival was miraculous, and now she is the baroness of the Red District of Vegas under a different name - Jingfei. You can find her in the Gomorrah.
Before she was Baroness, she unwillingly stumbled into an elaborate heist on the Sierra Madre. She was the only one to survive.

MARIA ANN LOFTON

Maria dreamed of a career in journalism and law. In her mind she’d see a bustling community, gardens and businesses, fairness without fear and segregation and war. There is nothing more important to her than community, nothing more important than chasing a family.
Maybe because it was always her job to clean up the mess, to be the mother, to carry everyone to safety. She could never quite escape it. Not with her family, not with her marriage. Not with the atomic hellfire, not with the scraps it left her with.

K3-79’s creation was something of barbaric cruelty, made with just enough imperfect memories and idiosyncrasies to be the little sister he remembered, but with enough holes in her brain to know her existence, a mockery of a girl 200 years dead, was a crime against creation. Anzhelika, third and youngest sister, loved The Nutcracker, would accompany him to the library just to read about swords and halberds and morningstars, tried to frighten him by cupping dozens of spiders and bugs in her hands. She could sew, wore her hair in long braids and ribbons, rented terrible horror movies with what little money she could make. Everything Anz could do, everything she loved and regretted, K3-79 shares. She knows these aren’t her memories, her talents… but who is K3-79 if not Anzhelika? And who is this girl to Valerian, if not a ghost?
