Limbo-Touched

Human, but due to certain circumstances, has been gifted with a fraction of the power held by the eldritch Denizens. The process, called Conferral, can happen intentionally or by accident, depending on how powerful the Denizen is and how sensitive to magic the human is. The reasons for this process vary. For example, Finnigan J. Hope experienced Conferral as a gift from a friend he'd made without knowing they were a Denizen. Roy G. Niles experienced a much more traumatic Conferral, as it was an unintended consequence of a rogue Denizen attempting to cut him in half. This accidental Conferral ironically saved Roy's life. Casimir Ambroise experienced an artificial version of Conferral that altered his physical form.

The abilities bestowed by Conferral vary, seemingly without pattern. The only consistent traits are the ability to identify another Limbo-Touched at a glance, and the ability to see through a Denizen's natural illusion magic, though this varies in strength. Roy, for instance, has to suspect that he's looking at a Denizen before he can pierce through the disguise. Benson, on the other hand, has to cross his eyes and squint to see a Denizen as anything but the Material Plane manifestation of its true form.
