The Era of the Sages is a full retelling of the canon events of Tears of the Kingdom. In this rendition of the story, the elements sages have encompassed are represented across the Legend of Zelda series, as well as incorporating others. In the original tale the sages were a small band of warriors that protect Hyrule, but here they are accompanied by those known as maidens. Maidens, as seen in other Zelda titles, are those who possess minor abilities of the sages and can stand in their stead in less critical situations. This story tells of a young villager chosen to become the new Sage of Light, departing from the arms of his lover. However, his inherent magic was keeping the great evil within his lover captive. With the magic influence gone, he is left to become a perfect vessel for the Demon King himself, Demise. Death is key in this story, but the revival of a singular guard can reverse the evil unleashed on Hyrule millennia in the future.
