I went into a freebie purge ad and said give me 4 random ocs literally saying if they want me to forever home them I can and they said they don’t want them goin to ppl who won’t use them when literally at least 20 ocs I checked that they gave away r with a different acc or r “unauthorized” (meaning they’re either privated or deleted) and at least 5 r in freebie/trading folders

It makes me so angry 

I could literally give these ocs more of a home than most of these ppl will

I’m a writer I can give any piece of art a fucking story I can make ppl love them

I’m eating takis in a white shirt on my moon chair and it’s September 1 2023 and I have a bunch of college applications to write and so many story ideas raving in my brain and not the right words or speed to write it all and a bunch of traditional drawings to complete within the next week and I don’t wanna do any of it and I wanna do all of it simultaneously

Regarding trading and selling free characters 

I personally don’t see it as wrong or bad in any way. They got the character from either claiming it first or giving a reason or drawing for them, regardless, they didn’t technically didn’t get it for free they had to do something to get it

I don’t care if people sell ocs for more than they got them for, I personally don’t like it cuz I wanna capitalize my own art and it’s unfair that I can barely sell shit and other ppl sell the same shit for 10x as much, but I mean hey, if u draw a pic on it u can sell it for whatever u can sell it for I don’t care u put effort into it, it’s ur work ur profiting off now, so while I’m reluctant to support selling stuff for more than u got it for, I don’t exactly condemn it tbh. It’s ok, just don’t blow their worth out of the water, that’s stupid. A 10 minute drawing isn’t worth $50. 

Back to the selling/trading freebies 

I think it depends on why they made them. I made 200+ freebies solely for the purpose of spreading my name, so I don’t care if at some point u want to trade them off or sell them, just don’t make it entirely unfair lol don’t be a scammer guys and charge $10 for just that one tiny pic. I’m totally open for the whole trading freebies things, I don’t care if ppl trade ocs they got for free, even from me, I look at it as hey they’re trying to get something they connect to more, on both sides, and if they somewhat have similar worth, does it matter where they came from? I think it doesn’t, and honestly, if someone wants a character I got for free and I don’t really want to part with it without reason, the next best step is a trade. Yeah, I got it for free, but I claimed it cuz I wanted it, and if u want it more then give me a reason why, like giving up an oc urself or drawing a picture for me. Just Bc it was given away for free doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value. I’ve got so many ocs with beautiful intricate stories that I value much more than how they got into my hands. I don’t care if it was gotten for free. 

The same goes for art I feel, that person drew it, it has value, even if it was given for free. Most drawings are from a form of trade, even if that trade is you giving them an idea so they can better their art skills. It’s still a trade, it still has value. The art isn’t worth “free” it was just obtained for free. 

While still respecting the creator, I think it’s totally fine to sell or trade freely obtained characters and art. (If they tell you not to then don’t, respect their wishes, they made that thing fuckhead)
