Design Preferences

Posted 3 years, 1 month ago by melsteras

A guide to my preferred traits n stuff for characters!! ofc you don't have to read the whole thing, but I'm more likely to accept a design if they follow most of the lists
I'm pretty picky so I apologize :")

🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - heck yeah!!! gimme
🟉🟉🟉🟉 - oo sure!
🟉🟉🟉 - its alright
🟉🟉 - eh,,, i can take it
🟉 - not my thing, sorry

.: colors/palettes :.

🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - ~6-12 colors
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - purples, greens
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - gradients that shift the hue when a color gets darker
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - sunset/jungle-y palettes
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - dull colors
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - palettes with 1 or 2 main gradients, and a few contrasting colors for minor features
🟉🟉🟉🟉 - blue/purple-y grays
🟉🟉🟉🟉 - yellow and cyan schemes
🟉🟉🟉🟉 - pink/purple-y browns
🟉🟉🟉 - blues and pinks (excluding cyan and salmon colors)
🟉🟉 - fire-y palettes
🟉🟉 - reds (i prefer them closer to orange or pink)
🟉 - <6 colors
🟉 - fully saturated palettes (one or two bright colors is fine if used sparingly)
🟉 - pure grays/blacks (use a desaturated dark blue or purple instead!)
🟉 - pure white (can be an exception for eyes/teeth)(i recommend using a very light, dull yellow instead!)
🟉 - dark yellow/chartreuse
🟉 - characters with only 1 or 2 main colors
🟉 - gradients that use darker versions of the same color (idk why i don't like it, but i WILL change it)
🟉 - rainbows everywhere

.: general markings/patterns :.

🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - siamese cat-like markings; a different color for the paws, tip of tail, and tip of ears
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - tiger stripes, especially geometric ones (also perhaps having different colors inbetween the stripes, or there being a faint gradient throughout the stripes)
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - calico cat markings (usually with other colors)
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - colors being split up by body part (foreleg being a lighter color, then the paws, then the toes; or the chin, then snout, then nose bridge, etc.)
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - gradients with the colors split individually (the palette would technically be a gradient, but there's no literal fade)
🟉🟉🟉🟉🟉 - markings that seem to stay only on a specific area of color/markings that change color once they overlap onto a different one
🟉🟉🟉🟉 - ocelot stripes
🟉🟉🟉🟉 - stripes that run lengthwise down the body
🟉🟉🟉 - fading gradients
🟉🟉🟉 - tabby stripes
🟉🟉🟉 - half-n-half markings
🟉🟉 - spots in general
🟉🟉 - jaguar/leopard rosettes
🟉🟉 - small, thin markings such as writing or an intricate symbol
🟉 - no/very few markings
🟉 - lack of markings basically anywhere (i.e. an entire limb being one color)(you don't have to fill in EVERY little space though, like if there's a pattern on one part of the back but the rest is just one or two colors, that's fine)

.: other :.

-Any body types work! Just don't make them weirdly exaggerated
-Anthro and feral are both ok!
-Please do not include breasts/genitals in the design; I am a minor, and they make me very uncomfortable
-Keep in mind that I may slightly redesign the character once I get them. I won't change everything- I might add or take away a couple markings, as well as change the body type. These are mostly to make everything look cleaner in my style, especially if I decide to animate them.

ty for reading my unnecessarily long post (I really appreciate it!), unless you just scrolled past everything lmao
