*skzzzzzzzzt* hello? is anyone there?
freedom is the name of a little island off the coast of maine. it was found in the mid 1930s, as a sort of utopia for those hoping to escape the great depression and live as a tight-knit community that pooled its resources. following the end of the great depression the city was industrialized and the initial goal was lost. it became a popular tourist spot, even marketing itself as "the east coast's hawaii!" however, this prosperity did not last long, as a tensions rose with the cold war and the threat of being bombed eventually led to the whole island being abandoned. in the late 2030s it was rediscovered, and now serves as a home for lost souls. the city has suffered some wear since it was last seen, and all of the street signs destroyed except "imagination avenue." because of this, it's what everyone calls the island. the cars have long broken down too, though strangely enough, the neon signs and town-wide pa system still work perfectly. nature has long-since reclaimed her land, with vines creeping up every wall and hanging from every terrace. though it used to be a popular summer vacation spot, now no one actually plans to move here. many people just show up, with no memories of their past life or how they even got there in the first place. there is no technology at this island, the only communication being ham radios. though many residents attempt to leave, no one is sure if it's actually possible, and most have long given up by now.
