Chiharu Izumi, a withdrawn, studious middle schooler, finds herself caught up in these mishaps when she contracts with the mysterious Kyubey. After meeting veteran Ayaka and twins Yuka and Yui, the quartet team up and head down a path of discovery as they investigate the source of the witches, a process that comes to reveal the dark history of magical girls that unravels in a spiral of hope and despair.
