Why does MONSTERS exist?
MONSTERS is the working title for my main OC project about two realms that don't quite get along. Most of the plot/worldbuilding/characters currently reside in my head. I've designed a few of the main cast already and done a lot of writing to supplement what I haven't yet managed to draw.
What's it all about?
MONSTERS takes place in two realms, HARKNESS and ILYARA. The story follows Azthodael and Kaii as they try and uncover a threat to both of their civilisations. There is magic, hijinks and a romantic enemies to lovers subplot. MMMmmm what more could my non-existent audience possibly want?
Oh dear creator what do all these strange made up words and places mean?
Don't fear! I have a neat little glossary, most terms will be explained on the relevant character pages, but here are some that apply generally throughout the lore:
Thraka: (Greek for cinder) an insulting term used to describe one without the gift of divine or demonic blood, thus possessing no physical or manifested magic.
The Gate: an ancient structure that connects Harkness to the realm of Ilyara, set deep underground into a massive cavern, its origins are unknown but only those with the highest status are permitted to use it- it requires a key to use.
The Fold: A raw connection between Ilyara and Harkness, Angels with concentrated divine power are able to tear the fabric of the world open in order to access different realms. Requires a powerful enough angel to open, or a source of powerful enough Bright Ones magic.
Night Market: A black market underground organisation that supplies rare and dangerous materials across the realms.
HARKNESS
Realm of demons and things that reside in the dark.
REALM INFO:
Underlord: The ruler of Harkness. This position is earned through defeating or contesting the authority of the previous ruler. People say the current ruler is so powerful nobody has even seen his real face…
The Council: The mysterious ruling force of Harkness. They pull many strings around the realms and are well feared, even the Underlord doesn’t trust them. It is unknown how many members there are. The Council uses Karyon crows as messengers.
Barons: Representatives of Harknian power, they are elected/chosen by the Underlord to maintain Harkness and uphold any duties bestowed upon them. There is a Baron Hierarchy from 1-6 that reflects their status and power levels.
Dark Ones: A faction of the forgotten gods, they gifted certain demons with the power of magic, leading to the current variety and abundance of magical ability. They have been rumored to still roam around the realms.
ILYARA
Realm of angels and things that seek the light.
REALM INFO:
Overlord: The ruler of Ilyara and commander of the angel forces. Their power is bestowed upon them due to their lineage to the Bright Ones, they should be the most pure magic power source in the realm in order to gain this status. The current Overlord has ruled for a very long time.
High Order: The ruling government of Ilyara, they keep order and structure in society and are commanded by the Overlord. Made up of the Seraphim, Archangels and the military force.
Seraphim/Archangels: commanded by the Seraphim, the Archangels are the heads of the military force of Ilyara, trained loyal defenders of the realm who work to dispel chaos and evil. There are 6 Archangels and 1 Seraphim.
Bright Ones: A faction of the forgotten gods, they left the angels with a magic lineage and haven’t been seen again in the realms for a very long time.
