Everyone’s thought at some point about what they’d do if the world ended. What we all fail to consider is what to do after the credits roll. The world’s ended, but you’re still there. What do you do? What can you do?

I’m figuring out that whatever it is, it’s a whole lot of walking. Walking to nowhere in particular, because all the particular places are gone. Walking through fields and forests and wondering if this heavy silence will break at some point.

I suppose I'll find out. I just have to keep going.

It’s quiet out on the edge of the world, where the woods meet the stars and the buildings fall away as if they were never there to begin with. You can go there and run, run so far and hard and fast that nobody will see you for days and days until you emerge from the trees, panting, footsteps chasing your tail through the fresh snow. You’ll look at them, breath fogging, and know that the wolves are still out there.

You know this because, for a few days, they let you join them.
