House Varys

(page to be yassified later)

some dates:

1E432: The establishment of the First Council brings rapid growth to Resdayn as a whole, allowing for the establishment of several new Houses. House Varys is founded in the Grazelands as a minor House under the patronate of Great House Dagoth. Beginning with a handful of lower-ranking Dagoth craftsmer hoping to raise their status, the House remains relatively small but influential as a source of artisan goods.

1E668: The War of the First Council begins. House Varys sides with its patron Great House, though the exact stance of Great House Dagoth during the war remains unclear.

1E700: The Battle of Red Mountain conludes with the deaths of both kings of Resdayn. Great House Dagoth is branded as the traitor House and its direct members are summarily eliminated. House Varys, as a relatively recent splinter of the Sixth House, is purged as well; less than half a dozen members, all infants, are spared. The House's original ancestral tomb is forcibly abandoned, such that their new tomb will be free of Sixth House ash. House Varys is relocated to the Ascadian Isles and absorbed into Great House Indoril, where it eventually regains its status. Modern members of the House are entirely unaware of their House's original affiliation, and to their knowledge their history begins in 1E700. By the Third Era, Great House Indoril itself is largely active on the mainland, but House Varys remains on the island.

2E536: Varys Rydrith, Vestige, is born.

2E582: Rydrith ends the Planemeld. The group mindset of House Dunmer brings fame to House Varys. When Rydrith dies, House Varys invests in a biometric door to their ancestral tomb to keep out intruders attempting to visit his resting place.

2E882: Dagoth Ur reawakens. House Varys produces an abnormally large number of Sleepers. The reasons for this are never addressed.

3E427: Arrival of the Nerevarine. Although they are expected to follow the directives of its patron House and apprehend the Nerevarine, the particularly severe consequences of Dagoth Ur's awakening for House Varys seem to override this and they remain amicable to the Nerevarine.

4E2: Varys Fadren (later Fadren Skjelvik-Varys), Last Dragonborn, is born.

4E5: The Red Year. Fadren and his direct family move to Skyrim, and many other members of House Varys make similar pilgrimages. Those that choose to endure the nearly-inhospitable Vvardenfell are relatively well-off (in the context of living on Vvardenfell, at least), with their long history establishing them as one of the most influential minor Houses in Morrowind.

4EXX: The New Temple is established. Great House Indoril has lost much, if not all, of its influence after the fall of the Tribunal; House Varys remains a subsidary of the Great House, but by this point largely operates independently. When House Hlaalu is stripped of its Grand Council position, House Sadras is selected as a replacement; the more politically active Varys councilors argue that their House is better fit for the position, which very well may be true, but House Varys has admittedly always been on the less active side of Dunmeri politics.

4E201: Fadren banishes Alduin. The idea of a Dunmer being the Last Dragonborn does not sit well with all Nords, but Fadren is an academic first and a hero second and happily returns to his professorial position at the College of Winterhold. His presence there does bring more tourism to Winterhold, if nothing else.
