Four kids plan on playing a brand new game together. However, as soon as they are about to start the game, Luke Strider stops responding. In the time he stops replying, Casper Egbert-Colman discovers a strange portal in his basement. When his twin sister, Alex Egbert-Colman goes to investigate, she sees her best friend, Luke, in her house and disapearing into the portal the twins discovered, she rushes after him. Alex gets transported to a brand new planet: Alternia. Her brother Casper and their fourth friend Ryan Payton rush after her, but the three kids get lost along the way. They meet aliens known as "trolls" who inform them the apocolypse is uppon their planet. The kids have to now find out how to locate Luke Strider, save the universe and return home.

The characters in this world are based off the webcomic homestuck. It utilizes themes from the comic and has characters from the world of homestuck. The timeline these characters belong in is seperate from the ones in 'homestuck'. Some characters spill over into this world, such as 'Bro Strider' and 'Dad Egbert'. The story deals with themes of loss, grief, chaos and order, fantasy and magic. The two narrators of the story are Luke Strider and Amilee Haveet, who are also relevant main characters.
