Meowls are curious creatures that love to explore their surrounding and learn to adapt to the environment. Despite their kind nature, some of the individuals are very agile and are really good at combat. They prefer to have fish and crustaceans as their main food source as well as some wild berries and fruits sometimes. Meowl's population were well accepted by human and other species as majority of them are often more than willing to help those in need around them. Meowls had various jobs to earn living for themselves in their world, such as material collectors, map explorer, navigators, animal caretakers and more! Some Meowl could reach flying speed of 200km/h and could carry up to 60kg, thus they're famous for item delivery and giving lift to species that can't fly.

This species came to my mind when I was thinking about owls, but in mandarin which is 猫头鹰 (Eagle with cat head) thus the species had cat ears, bird wings, bird tails and bird talons.

Regarding patterns:

Each individual Meowls had different colours and patterns on body, feathers and face.
Some Meowl had less facial pattern while some had more, presence of patterns represents the ability of a Meowl to fly and fight. So a Meowl with little face pattern and body pattern are likely to fly slower and less likely to win in battle. However, that genetic factor could be overcome, depending on the amount of training and practice the Meowl had gone through after they were hatched.
Meowl with facial patterns doesn't necessarily likes to fight, there are some that choose to have common and peaceful jobs besides from entering arenas.
Wings size also greatly affects the fighting and flying ability of Meowl regardless of presence of facial patterns.

Life cycle:

Meowls are warm-blooded but oviparous. The eggs had thick shells (1 cm), takes 3 months to hatch and usually the shell pattern could tell what sorts of colours and pattern a Meowl would have when hatched.
Average lifespan of Meowls are around 60 years, some have been reported to live up to 100 years.
Most Meowls are monogamous and chose to live with one life partner for the rest of their life if they decided to.
Meowls are omnivorous. Also, they could speak different language depend on area they're from.
Usually Meowls reach maturity at age of 20 years.
Depending on the place where Meowls live, they could have different adaptation traits.
For example: Meowls that live in cold climates usually had thicker neck feathers and generally more fluffs around their ears whereas Meowls that live around ocean or places with strong winds had more aerodynamic wings and tail shape to reduce air friction.
However, there are Meowls that decided to move into different areas despite they don't have the adaptive traits due to personal preferences or Meowls that had failed to develop adaptive traits but are living fine as well.
Meowls loves to dance and sing to express their love for someone. Some Meowls don't though despite their species are renowned for their singing, not all Meowls had a lovely voice. Haha~

Miscellaneous:

Meowls prefer aquatic organisms (could be crustaceans, molluscs, Osteichthyes or Chondrichthyes etc) as their food. As they're high in protein and more compatible and easier to be abdsorbed by their body. It is also because they have higher iodine content which helps in development of their voice (thyroids and hormones).
A lot of Meowls saved people from drowning and falling from high places. Despite their ability to fight most Meowls are naturally kind-hearted and extremely curious to surroundings. They're also alert to surroundings.
Meowls tend to shed their feathers once every 2 weeks and a lot of travelling merchants and collectors love these feathers because they're covered in thin layer of wax substance which enables them to stay dry for long period of time and make as a good burning material. When burned, their feathers release tiny sparkles with colours of their feathers.
Some merchant had combine their feathers with fragrant substance to create aesthetically-soothing aroma incense.
