Thank You

My mother's dog who is like a little brother to me has become very sick. We had a vet extract a cracked tooth then a couple days later he started acting strange and had an absess growing in his mouth.

The vet we'd taken him to (one we'd been taking all of our dogs to over the last few years) had not given us anti-bacterial medicine after the surgery and had stated he wouldn't need it. Needless to say we had to bring him back and have them treat that problem and actually give us meds this time.

Now, less than a month later he is sick again. But in a different way. The vet tells us all of his blood cell counts are low but they do not know why. They gave us more medicine they think might help but has done nothing. Today, we are bringing him to a vet in the city.

All I'm asking is that you please send out good thoughts to him.

*Update*

He's in critical condition. They're saying his body might be attacking its own blood cells with antibodies or he might be bleeding somewhere internally. If not those two, he has bone marrow cancer. He's having blood tests and an ultrasound done but we don't know when. We had to leave him with the vet and hope for good news in the near future.

*Update*

Heard from the vet. The red blood cells are now at 23 instead of the 19 they were on Saturday. No other changes but we're taking this as good news. Hopefully we'll have more good news to share later tonight.

Final Update

We had to put him down last night. He had lymphoma and it was terminal.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts towards him. You helped the process go faster than it could have. We got the diagnosis in one day instead of 2-3. We are grateful he didn't have to suffer longer than he had to.

I will delete this thread tomorrow. I just wanted to say a final thanks to everyone.

Thank you. Yes, they always are. We had him for ten years. That's a little less than half of my lifetime. We all miss him dearly. But we're glad he's not suffering anymore.

Waltz

I can only extend my condolences to you and yours, but it's good to know that your pup had such a loving, caring family for the time he was with you, and I'm sure he appreciated it every day. Hugs and love to all of you.
